A competitive gamer's dream to win a multi-million dollar Fortnite tournament were dashed recently when his father smashed his gaming PC to smithereens due to a misunderstanding.

The gamer, who goes by the name Rem, was competing in the prestigious Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS), which featured a US$3 million prize pool, when his father told him to shut off his PC.

According to esports personality Jake Lucky, who brought the incident to light on Twitter, Rem was told by his father to visit relative's house. However, Rem refused to comply as he was competing in FNCS.

"His dad gave him a couple minutes to get off, when Rem refused, he smashed everything He was only able to recover his 1080 TI (graphics card)," said Lucky.

Rem shared his experience on Twitter, claiming that he had paid for the PC himself without any financial assistance from his father.

Following the incident, United States-based custom PC builder PowerGPU said it would gift Rem a brand new gaming PC, which has better specifications than his older, now destroyed, machine.

Some netizens commiserated with Rem, saying his father's actions were excessive. However, others pointed out that Rem should have respected the wishes of his father.
