A woman felt like she was "shamed" by her server for requesting bread with an expensive salad and the moment was filmed.

In a viral video with 3.5 million views and over 226,000 likes, user Fiona Moriarty (@realprincessfiona) shared the interaction.

"When you wanted bread with your $28 salad but the server shames you & says 'it has a crouton,'" reads the clip's text overlay.

In the video, the woman is sipping a glass of lemon water while dining outside at a restaurant.

The alleged incident

After adding black pepper to her salad, she directs her attention to her server. "You have any bread?" she asked.

"It has the crouton," responds a woman from off-camera.

The clip then ends. In the comments section, many believed the server may have been confused by the way the woman asked for bread.

Was it a simple misunderstanding?

"'Can I please have bread' vs 'does it have any bread,'" user FabioTheFish wrote.

"I think she thought you said 'Does it have any bread' so she said 'No it doesn’t, it has a crouton,'" user Megan Ingle wrote. "Just a simple misunderstanding on both ends."

"I think she just misunderstood what you were asking," user Imani echoed.

However, one commenter pointed out the astounding cost of the salad.

"Not enough people are talking about why the salad is $28," user Arynah Saga wrote.

Using TikTok to call out bad service

TikTok users regularly use the platform to call out servers for bad service.

One IHOP customer went viral after alleging a racist waitress refused to serve her party because they're Black. A woman also alleged she was shamed while dining at a restaurant for ordering a soup and salad.

However, the platform is most commonly used by servers who had bad experiences with their customers.

For example, one waitress said she charged her party for lemonades after they ordered water, lemon and sugar to mix their own drink. Another server went viral after ranting about customers who make reservations but do not include their children as "people."

The Daily Dot reached out to Fiona Moriarty via Instagram direct message and TikTok comment for more information.

‘This cost me $90’: IHOP customer reports ants, ‘food poisoning.’ She can’t believe the manager’s response https://www.dailydot.com/news/ihop-ants-food-poisoning-manager-ignored/ Fri, 26 Jul 2024 02:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1631509 IHOP (l) food on table (c) woman with food poisoning (r)

An IHOP customer who said she left the restaurant because of an ant infestation was horrified after she reportedly got sick from the food, and management ignored her.

In a viral video with over 141,000 views and 10,000 likes, TikTok user Thisisnalasworld (@thisisnalasworldpaht2) captured shots of ants on her table and shared what purportedly happened after she decided to take her food to go.

"On July 21, I took two of my daughters to IHOP in Williamstown, New Jersey, and there were ants everywhere," the woman began. "By the time we got our food, they were finally crawling across the table."

Ultimately, the woman said she decided to pack up her food and leave the restaurant.

"There was just no way we could eat with the ants everywhere," she said.

The TikToker said that before leaving, she complained to her server, who raised the concern with the restaurant's manager.

"She did speak to the manager about this," the woman said. "The manager did nothing."

Things didn't improve from there

To make matters worse, the woman reported that she and her family got sick after eating the breakfast.

"Later that day, all three of us ended up with food poisoning," she reported. "I will never go there again."

The woman further claimed that she attempted to reach out to the restaurant, but it ignored her. She also reached out to corporate but was allegedly ignored.

"It's been several days," she said. "I've heard nothing back."

The Daily Dot emailed IHOP and Thisisnalasworld for more information.

In the comments section of the video, many urged the mother to escalate the issue.

"Call the health department!!" one viewer wrote.

"Call the health department [and send] them the video," user Geol echoed.

Some viewers blamed the TikToker

However, others questioned why she still decided to eat the food after discovering the restaurant's ant infestation.

"Remember this," user Lemongatta said. "If you can see the ants everywhere, and they aren't bothered by it, imagine what you don't see back in the kitchen."

"If you saw the ants why take the food??" user Ebony Scott asked.

"Should have left when seeing the ants," user Tim2501 commented.

The TikToker responded to that comment and agreed she made a mistake by staying at the restaurant and then eating the food after she left.

"Agreed my mistake," she responded.

Restaurant cleanliness is a hot topic

This is not the first time a TikToker has gone viral for questioning a restaurant's cleanliness. One former worker claimed he was fired after trying to get his restaurant to "food safety standards." Another racked up thousands of views after exposing how dirty her restaurant's kitchen was.

‘Toll roads are the biggest scam’: Florida driver has SunPass and E-PASS. Why are 3 companies billing her different amounts for unpaid tolls? https://www.dailydot.com/news/sunpass-e-pass-3-companies-billing-unpaid-tolls/ Fri, 26 Jul 2024 01:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1630319 Woman holding envelopes(l), Toll worker and hand passing money(c), Woman talking(r)

A Florida woman is livid and confused after she alleges she received bills from three different companies for unpaid tolls. In a viral video that has amassed over 111,200, TikTok user Sara (@heysarasmiles) voiced her frustration.

"You know what I don't understand about tolls?" the woman began in the clip. "Why am I getting toll information from three different companies, and why are they all telling me that I owe different amounts?"

While speaking, she held up open envelopes from different toll companies.

"I have one from the Florida Department of Transportation," she said. "I have two from SunPass, and then I have three from Central Florida Expressway Authority."

The woman also claimed that each reported that she owed a different amount for tolls.

She further explained that she has both a SunPass and E-PASS account that could be billed directly, yet she continues to get bills for unpaid tolls.

"I don't understand what this all means," she lamented.

In the comments section, many tried to make sense of the woman's dilemma.

"Yeah you shouldn’t have both," user Dan DeChilles wrote. "If you have both they are probably charging you twice every time you go through. You only need one."

"I only have a SunPass and never had any problems…been here for 6 years now," user F.W. added.

Others admitted that they rarely pay the tolls.

"I just don't pay them and then when I renew my sticker they have me pay a small fee," user Alexandria Lynn said.

"I only ever pay FDOT because then I can’t renew my tag without paying them, the others don’t matter," another viewer added.

Why did three different companies bill her?

According to The Central Florida Expressway Authority, there are many ways to pay tolls in the state, including by "E-PASS, Pay By Plate Toll Invoice and cash." SunPass, a toll payment program available across 21 states, is also valid in Florida.

E-PASS and SunPass require drivers to have a transponder linked to a payment account in their vehicle so it can be charged when they go through a toll lane. E-PASS is operated by the Central Florida Expressway Authority, and SunPass is run by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). Since E-PASS and SunPass are run by different entities, it's likely that each company charged her separately, as a commenter suggested.

Additionally, the FDOT's Turnpike website states, "If you have a transponder with a prepaid account, your account must contain adequate funds to ensure you can pay your toll. If you do not have cash or a transponder when driving through the toll, you will be billed by TOLL-BY-PLATE. With TOLL-BY-PLATE, the registered owner of the vehicle will receive a Toll Enforcement Invoice in the mail with a $2.50 administrative charge."

Sara may have gotten the letter with the FDOT logo if she had gone through a toll lane without funds on her transponder accounts. In such a case, she would have had to be charged with TOLL-BY-PLATE. According to the SunPass website, the Toll Enforcement Invoice drivers receive when they've been billed with TOLL-BY-PLATE have the FDOT's logo. However, the site does not show whether the logo is on the envelope as well.

Why were the amounts different?

Florida drivers may receive discounts based on how they pay tolls. The SunPass website states that members save "an average of 25% on your tolls over cash and TOLL-BY-PLATE."

The site also says SunPass members attempting to pay a TOLL-BY-PLATE bill for a license plate not on their account can add the plate. "Upon adding the license plate, the fees will be waived and you will receive a reduction in the amount due," it states.

On its website, E-PASS states that members "Save an average of 30% on tolls compared with motorists paying with cash."

The Daily Dot emailed SunPass, the Central Florida Expressway Authority, and the FDOT for more information. It also contacted Sara via TikTok direct message and comment.

‘What would the charge be??’: White neighbor threatens to call cop on Black woman for leaving her A/C on https://www.dailydot.com/news/white-neighbor-calls-cops-over-ac/ Tue, 23 Jul 2024 20:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1629209 Racist woman(l+r), Air Conditioning unit in window(c)

A Black woman caught her white neighbor accosting her over an air conditioner on her doorbell camera, sparking outrage.

TikTok user Camera Street (@camera.street8O) shared the awkward exchange in a viral video that has amassed over 3.6 million views.

"What being a black [woman] living in a retired neighborhood looks like......" reads text overlaid on the clip. "Calling the police on me for having my AC on."

In the clip, the white neighbor waits at the woman's front door after ringing the doorbell.

"Hi, how are you?" the Black woman answers through the camera's intercom.

"Yeah, I need to talk to you," the neighbor responds.

After the Black woman said she was not at home, the white neighbor threatened to call the police.

Why was she going to call the police?

"Well, then I'm gonna have to call the police to come over here," the white woman said, "because you were told not to put the air conditioner on."

Allegedly, the Black woman was told not to use her A/C because it was leaking into other units. The white woman then accused her of leaving it running.

"The air conditioner shouldn't be on," the Black woman retorted.

"Well, the air conditioner is running," the white woman shot back. "So, maybe you have it on automatic."

Ultimately, the Black woman assured her neighbor that she would be home within 30 minutes to remedy the issue.

However, in the clip's comments section, viewers were outraged by the white woman's threat.

"Nobody is gonna tell me when I can turn my ac on and off," one viewer said.

Many mocked the woman's belief that she could call the police over someone using their air conditioner.

"Definitely dispatch the police!!" user Debrastlouis wrote. "They definitely need to come asap for that air conditioner."

"Call the police and tell them my ac is on," user Ashtonbellue commented.

Content featuring white women threatening Black women with police intervention often goes viral on social media. Just recently, one Black woman took to Facebook Live after she said a white neighbor called the police on her for talking on her phone outside. She received a ticket for creating a "public nuisance." Another Black woman alleged a nail technician called the police on her and refused to finish her manicure.

‘That’s so shady to even rent it out like that’: Renter moves into new apartment, realizes something major is missing https://www.dailydot.com/news/new-apartment-no-windows/ Mon, 22 Jul 2024 20:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1628186 Renter moves into new apartment, realizes something major is missing

One woman discovered her apartment was missing a crucial element and took to TikTok to vent.

In a viral video that has racked up over 721,600 views, user Key (@keyrachristaaa) showed off what she found on move-in day and explained why she refused to stay at her new place overnight.

"I moved in today just to find out there is no window," text overlaid on the clip read. "So, I'm leaving for the night. Hopefully my things don't get stolen."

In the video, the woman gave more details about the situation and how she planned to deal with it.

"So why I just moved into these apartments, today, and the window is gone," the woman said while recording a video of a kitchen window that appeared to be covered with cardboard.

She further explained that she didn't know the window was gone until after she moved in.

"I went and told the leasing agent," she continued.

The apartment management allegedly told her that they would "put in a request."

However, that response was insufficient for the woman who still felt uncomfortable about the whole situation.

"Well guess what?" she asked. "I'm not gone be here tomorrow."

@keyrachristaaa Comment good apartments in atlanta or the surrounding areas please.Im about to break the lease they knew it was no window so they tried to hide it. I have rental insurance, my lawyer will be contacting them and also i will be out of this apartment tomorrow. I refuse to live here i done seen so many bugs already because of the missing window. I will live in my car before i sleep in here. I have two small children and im not exposing them to danger. #slumlord #apartments ♬ original sound - Key 💗

Viewers are on her side

In the comments section, many agreed that the woman should be upset and offered advice.

"I’d consider this emergency maintenance," user Brianna wrote. "That’s ridiculous."

"That’s so shady to even rent it out like that," another said.

"That’s grounds for not paying ya rent," user @Gemini_status said. "Put it in escrow until it’s fixed go stay in a hotel n take it out their rent when they try to take you to court it’s warranty of habitability."

Many have taken to TikTok with complaints about their renting experiences. Videos exposing "tenant specials" and "landlord specials" (quick fixes to an apartment to make it appear move-in or move-out ready) have been especially popular on the platform. One tenant went viral after sharing her quick DIY carpet fix. Another recorded herself doing a paint job before moving out.

Recently, another renter went viral after attempting to move into an apartment and discovering there were still other tenants there.

In an update video, @keyrachristaaa said the apartment complex decided they would be willing to break her lease and give her money back.

The Daily Dot reached out to her via email for comment and an update.

‘This should be illegal’: Goodwill shopper stunned to find Instant Pot air fryer for $5. Then she looks inside https://www.dailydot.com/news/goodwill-5-dollar-instant-pot-air-fryer-sandwich/ Sat, 20 Jul 2024 11:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1620225 Goodwill shopper stunned to find Instant Pot air fryer for $5

A Goodwill shopper thought she lucked into a great deal on an air fryer until she discovered what was inside.

The woman, Kristen (@unapologeticallykristen_), shares her findings in a now-viral TikTok video.

"I'm like 'Damn, Instant Pot air fryer for $5,'" she begins in the clip.

As she spoke, she showed off a red air fryer that she found on the shelf at a Goodwill store.

However, the deal came with an unexpected item.

What was in the Goodwill Instant Pot air fryer?

"Comes with a free sandwich," she said.

When the shopper pulls out the air fryer's tray, a mostly eaten sandwich can be seen. The air fryer also appeared to be dirty and greasy.

"Oh my God," a voice off-camera exclaimed about the finding.

In the comments section, many poked fun at the finding and joked Goodwill would mark up the price of the item if they knew it included free food.

"Free gift with purchase," user Dalane VT wrote.

"Don’t tell them they will double the price," user vEddie Lambert commented.

"A bargain and a treat? Yes, thank you," another user joked.

This is not the first time a Goodwill shopper takes on the store for scamming shoppers. One TikToker went viral after finding a mason jar with a note in it that was on sale for $2.99. The note read: “You can buy this new for $1.98.”

Another shopper discovered expired Mac & cheese on the store's shelves.

The store is even accused of selling $4 used toothpaste.

Though the store has received plenty of backlash online, it does play an integral role in communities, especially for people with special needs and disabilities.

According to Goodwill's website, the non-profit is a community-based program that helps special needs people find employment. The items that are donated to the store are resold at its retailers. All the fund and proceeds that are raised fund job training programs and also career services.

‘Them Toyota bumpers gone be the death of me’: Dealership wants $1,500 for new bumper. Driver does it himself for way cheap https://www.dailydot.com/news/diy-toyota-bumper-fix-saves-1500-dollars/ Sat, 20 Jul 2024 04:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1625650 Dealership wants $1,500 for new bumper. Driver does it himself for way cheap

A Toyota owner disclosed the lengths he went to save money on repairing his bumper after receiving an expensive quote from a mechanic.

In a viral video that has racked up over 174,000 views, TikToker @thepresidentm5 (@bigdbm5) showed off how he saved big with his DIY bumper fix.

"POV: the auto company said it's $1,500 for a new bumper because the clamp broke," text overlaid on the clip read.

What steps did he take?

The video began with a shot of the broken bumper. The following shot included the things the TikToker said he used to fix it: painter's tape, a pair of scissors, a bowl, and two tubes of J-B Kwik.

J-B Kwikweld is an adhesive that can be used to repair metal.

"Apply painters [sic] tape onto the bumper where you'll add the JB Kwik," text overlaid on the clip explained.

Next, the TikToker explained that he mixed the two tubes of chemicals.

"Once mixed up, apply to the lower clamp that's detached and hold it together for 8 min," more text said.

According to its website, the glue "sets in 6 minutes and is fully cured in 4-6 hours."

The TikToker showed off his seemingly fixed bumper at the end of the video.

What else can you do?

In the comments section, many expressed how they deal with their own bumper issues.

"This happen to me but in back of my car I just started hitting it back in," user Isela wrote.

Similarly, user Leo Kardashian wrote, "I just popped mine back in," while user AM said, "I used zip ties on an old eclipse."

Additionally, user Edith Diaz suggested, "You could have bought a plastic welder and welded the clip back into its shape!"

Meanwhile, other viewers criticized Toyota's bumpers.

"Them Toyota bumpers gone be the death of me," user L wrote. "Mine popped off on the side a little bit too lol. But my dealer is fixing mine for free."

Car troubles often inspire viral content on TikTok. One mechanic went viral after issuing a warning that cost-cutting attempts often lead to more costs in the end. Another mechanic racked up views for explaining how he helped a customer save hundreds on repairs she didn't need.

‘Something tells me there’s a secret entrance behind the mirror’: Woman issues warning against Philadelphia hotel after discovering mysterious holes in the wall https://www.dailydot.com/news/woman-philadelphia-sonder-hotel-warning/ Fri, 19 Jul 2024 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1626693 Woman issues warning against Philadelphia hotel after discovering mysterious holes in the wall

One woman is urging others to avoid a Philadelphia hotel after she says she discovered strange holes in its wall.

In a viral video that has more than 833,000 views as of this writing, TikToker Alexa Rich (@alexxaanicole) expressed outrage over the findings.

"I hate Philadelphia; wanna know why?" the woman began in the clip. "I thought this was a nice little hotel."

That was until she noticed multiple random holes in the wall of her room facing the bed.

"I was just sitting over there, and then I noticed: That's an odd hole," she explained in the video.

While she spoke, she recorded shots of the wall in question.

"That's odd," she said, pointing to what looked like a hole in the wall. "That's odd cause there's tissue paper in it."

After a quick pan, the shot revealed more holes in the accent wall where a television was mounted.

"Oh wait, it gets f*cking better," she said.

Then, she counted the additional holes she spotted. There were six in total.

Why were there holes?

"So I just called down, and they're like, 'No, no, no, it's a part of the rustic vibe,'" she alleged.

The woman also claimed the hotel's manager accused her of sticking the tissue paper in the holes herself.

"What is this?" the TikToker questioned.

Ultimately, the TikToker reported that the hotel planned to give her a refund.

In the comments section, some wanted the woman to expose the name of the hotel.

"Drop the hotel name babe," user Natalie Jewell wrote.

"Hotel name now!" user Haleigh said.

Many guessed the name of the property.

"Looks like Sonder’s bullsh*t," user Diana Ofosu commented.

"Yeah it’s a Sonder property….. not a hotel," user Rubenremus said. "Started by some tech bro and backed by Jeff Bezos, they are the largest host on Airbnb. It’s just a money grab. No one should stay at those places."

"Don't stay at Sonder places," user Jimbo warned.

In a follow-up clip, the woman confirmed that she stayed at a Sonder property. She also alleged that after she was moved, she discovered yet another hole in the ceiling of her new accommodation.

What is Sonder?

According to Sonder's website, the hospitality company strives to redefine the industry by offering apartment-style short-term accommodations.

A Little Ruby's customer claimed she had to leave the restaurant because of its poor service, adding to a long list of patrons who accuse the cafe of bad customer service.

The now-viral TikTok video uploaded by Yasmin (@yazzydabrat) has racked up over 4.3 million views and more than 10,000 likes.

"Watch my mom and I leave this popular NYC restaurant because of their poor customer service," text overlaid on the clip read.

The clip highlighted the reason why the women felt so mistreated that they had to leave.

"So every time we come here, they never take our orders first," the woman said, speaking to the camera while seated in the restaurant. "This table came here after us, and they're getting their orders taken first."

She further explained that her mom believes the maltreatment has everything to do with racism.

After the women decided to leave, they also alleged one of the restaurant's workers spoke to them disrespectfully.

"He said, 'Let's get it; let's get It," Yasmin accused, seemingly suggesting the worker snappily requested their order before they ultimately decided to leave.

The women also said he didn't apologize for the bad experience they had.

In the comments section, many offered words of support to the women.

Another viewer alleged the cafe has since begun to censor the comments section of its social media.

"I’m crying [they] turned off the comments on their videos," user RottenVampire commented.

In the comments section of one of the cafe's videos, some accused the restaurant of mistreating Black customers.

"Come drink and eat at our racist establishment," user ReirMelody wrote. "But if your black,,,stay home.”

"WORST ATMOSPHERE TO BE AROUND," user Yamlet said. "YOU DONT FEEL SAFE OR COMFORTABLE, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY’RE RACIST."

‘I do know it was her’: Black woman says her white neighbor called a SWAT team on her https://www.dailydot.com/news/black-woman-swatted-by-white-neighbor/ Wed, 17 Jul 2024 09:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1623580 Woman talking(l+r), Swat badge(c)

A Black woman said she was swatted and she has every reason to believe it was her new white neighbor's fault. Here's what we've learned about the situation.

In a viral TikTok clip with over 879,300 views and over 70,000 likes, user Tameka B. (@thetamekabazile) explained what went down.

"Months ago, a white woman moved into my predominantly Black, suburban apartment complex," the woman began in the clip.

Things quickly took a dark turn in the story.

"Today, my fiancé and I were swatted," she said, referring to the practice of calling a SWAT team to someone's house.

Why was she swatted?

The woman went on to explain that during a normal day while her and her fiancé worked remotely, a SWAT team descended on her home.

"I'm in the living room with my dog and something piques her interest at the door," she recalled.

At first, the woman assumed it was a package delivery, but after her dog reacted with extreme alarm, she figured something more serious was going on.

Tameka said she ran over to her door and noticed someone was "jiggling" the door handle.

"Somebody is trying to key into the apartment," she continued.

When the woman looked out of the peep hole, she was surprised to discover "a sea" of police officers.

She then provided a video of police holding a gun and riot shield at her front door.

Allegedly, the police instructed her to immediately open the door and she refused out of concern for the safety of her dog. She ran to inform her fiancé about what was happening and then returned to the door and opened it a crack.

"Can you take a step back?" the officers allegedly asked through the door. "We need you to put your hands up."

Tameka said that she felt more vulnerable than she ever had before in her life in that moment. She began to question why the cops were at her door and that is when she was told that they were called by a neighbor who reported two gun shots coming from her apartment or the apartment next door.

After a brief interaction, the cops left.

The woman then explained why she believes they were called by a white woman who recently moved into the apartment complex.

"I do know it was her because last night my fiancé observed some weird behavior from her on our Ring camera," she said.

The TikToker claimed she spotted the neighbor on her Ring camera after she was approached by police officers who were called by someone else.

"My assumption, and I know my gut is right, is that she called the cops today, pointed them in the direction of the two apartments on our floor because she knew it had to be one of those apartments who called the cops on her last night," she said.

According to the ADL, the leading anti-hate organization in the world, swatting is “the deliberate and malicious act of reporting a false crime or emergency to evoke an aggressive response (often a SWAT team) from a law enforcement agency to a target's residence or place of work to harass and intimidate them." It's been an issue in law enforcement for the past decade, and a trend that traces its rise to teens pranking each other over video games.

In the comments section, many urged the TikToker to take legal action against her neighbor.

"People have been swatted and have lost their lives," one user wrote. "Please pursue her legally if you can so she doesn’t do it to anyone else."

"That's a civil lawsuit," user Kat's Joyful Health Journey commented. "Get a lawyer and sue that woman."

"I’m so glad yall are ok," user Mrs. C xoxo commented.

This is the second time in my life where I’ve been swatted. Like wtf?

In recent years, individuals, institutions, celebrities and influencers have been targeted. People from marginalized communities are especially vulnerable.

For example, during the summer of 2023, at least 72 Jewish institutions feel victim to swatting incidents. Nicki Minaj was also swatted on several occasions.

Woman talking(l+r), Swat badge(c)
