A former Chipotle worker decided to retell a story explaining why he got fired from the restaurant, prompting the customer harmed by the incident to respond.

In a viral TikTok video titled "The Chipotle Incident" that has amassed over 1.3 million views and 160,000 likes, user Life According to Eli (@lifeaccordingtoeli) retold the story of what lead to his firing.

"So just over a year ago, I lost my job at Chipotle for making this bowl and I thought it as about time for me to retell the story because I think it's honestly one of the funniest things I've ever done," he said.

'The Chipotle Incident'

The man then explained that he was in the midst of closing the store when he received a big online order. Someone ordered "12 different bowls," including one that requested sour cream.

"Who orders 12 Chipotle bowls at 10 o'clock at night?" the man asked. Nonetheless, Eli said he made all of the food. Though he also admitted that while making the last bowl, he added far too much of one ingredient.

"When I got to the last bowl, it said 'Extra sour cream,'" he said. "And I don't know what came over me, but I just kept putting more and more scoops of sour cream on the bowl ."

He added so much extra sour cream that the customer was unable to enjoy their meal. The former Chipotle worker also admitted that he snapped a photo of the bowl to send to his friends.

Three weeks later, the man's boss finally addressed the incident.

Revenge gone viral

"We go back to his office and he sits me down and says 'This isn't gonna be a very fun chat,'" Eli reported.

Apparently, the woman had posted the bowl she received on TikTok and it had gone viral, racking up 7 million views. The comments section was also riddled with messages "bashing" Chipotle.

"It was just a PR nightmare," the worker admitted.

Then the man's boss revealed email exchanges he had with corporate and security camera footage of him making the bowl and taking a picture of it.

The man allegedly quit his job after the confrontation with his boss. The Daily Dot covered the original incident in a previous post.

Viewers call out the ex-Chipotle worker

In the clip's comments section, many called out the TikToker for his behavior.

"Nah she cooked you bro," user Stel Pappas wrote. "She posted the receipt and it was just one bowl and ordered at 8:30."

In response to the new clip, the customer decided to offer up more details about the incident a viral slide show uploaded by Beccado1 (@beccado1).

"One thing about me, I always come with receipts," the video's description read.

The slideshow included a Chipotle receipt from the alleged day of the order. It indicated that he only ordered one bowl and the pick up time for the order was 8:30pm, not 10pm.

"Yeah I think I told the story so many times to so many people that I mixed up what really happened," Eli replied. "Turns out I just screwed with her order for no reason and deservingly lost my job."

‘Mobile-ordered my Chipotle to the store that is 6 hours away’: Chipotle customer shares what happens when you place mobile order to wrong location https://www.dailydot.com/news/mobile-order-wrong-location-chipotle/ Thu, 18 Jul 2024 11:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1624947 Man talking(l+r), Chipotle(c)

A Chipotle customer shared what happens when you place a mobile order to the wrong location. In his case, the location happened to be six hours away, in another state.

TikTok user Ethan (@iebot) is a self-described “pro yapper” who posted a video on July 3 from inside his vehicle. In the video, which has since amassed 478,000 views, Ethan shows off his bag of Chipotle before sharing how wrongly his meal almost went. “Tell me why my silly little [expletive] mobile-ordered my Chipotle to the Chipotle store that is six hours away,” Ethan says.

Ethan learned of his mistake after he placed his order in the mobile app. “I pull up to the little mobile order window, and I’m like, ‘Hey, I have an order for Ethan,’ and she’s like, ‘No, no you don’t,’” Ethan says. “And I was like, ‘No, yes I do,’ and she was like, ‘No, sorry, honey, no you don’t.’’

That led Ethan to check his mobile app. “Surely, there is a mobile order for Ethan, but it’s three states away,” Ethan says. “And I was like, 'Seriously?' You’d think they would map me and tell me, ‘Hey, this restaurant’s literally in a different time zone than you,’ but it didn’t say anything.”

What to do if you mobile-order to the wrong location

To help him get a refund, Ethan then turned to Chipotle’s chatbot. “It was so helpful,” Ethan says. “We were like kiki-ing. We were having a good little conversation. I was like, ‘Are you sure you're not a person? Because I feel like we’re flirting right now.’ And then, sure enough, the chatbot was like, ‘Yup, 1-3 days, you’ll have your refund.’”

@iebot @Chipotle ♬ original sound - e val

Ethan says, “I was like, ‘Let me marry you, honestly.’ Because, usually, the chatbots are literally like a Dell computer from 1975. So, thank god. I got my money back. I got my order. I got a new fling with the AI bot. What more could you ask for?”

In the caption, Ethan writes, “@Chipotle AI has me smiling over here.”

Pepper is Chipotle's chatbot

In the comments, users shared their thoughts on Pepper, which is the name of Chipotle’s artificial intelligence-based concierge chat bot. According to Chipotle, “Pepper ensures guests have an exceptional experience on the Chipotle app and Chipotle.com. Chipotle customers can select from frequently asked questions or ask their own questions to get a response quickly. Chippy joins Pepper in Chipotle's artificial intelligence suite to improve Chipotle's overall guest and employee experience.”

McDonald’s experimented with AI as well in recent years, but without the same results. Apparently, the chain is ending its partnership on an AI-fueled drive thru ordering project because the system was getting orders wrong.

Update 3:13pm CT, July 18: A Chipotle spokesperson told the Daily Dot when reach for comment:

"Chipotle continues to invest in emerging technology to support its digital business and reduce friction in its restaurants. The company believes technology deployed consistently and correctly can improve the human experience. Pepper, Chipotle’s AI-powered concierge chat bot, allows guests to ask questions and receive responses quickly, ensuring exceptional experiences on the Chipotle app and Chipotle.com. Additionally, if Ethan had 'opted in' to allow location-based technology in the Chipotle app, he would have received a prompt to confirm the pick-up location as well as order readiness."

‘Mean girl energy!!!’: Customer says Chipotle worker body-shamed her at the drive-thru https://www.dailydot.com/news/chipotle-worker-body-shames-customer/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1616774 Customer says Chipotle worker bodyshamed her at the drive-thru

A user on TikTok is sharing her unusual experience being body-shamed in a Chipotle drive-thru that left her feeling uncomfortable.

TikTok user Chhavee Jovilyne (@chhaveejovilyne) is a TikTok creator showing her lifestyle on the social media platform.

Jovilyne was filming a day-in-the-life video, which showcased her running errands, getting coffee, and picking up her order from Chipotle. That’s when the video took a twist. As the TikToker was grabbing her order through the drive-thru window, the Chipotle worker commented to her about her weight.

The worker says, “It’s heavy, it probably weighs more than you do,” which makes Jovilyne visibly uncomfortable.

This isn’t the first time a Chipotle employee has commented on someone’s order. In December 2023, TikTok user Bobby “Kazz” Kasmire (@bobbykazz) made a video sharing his experience ordering a $25 Chipotle bowl.

According to the video, he ordered “pretty much everything.” When he got to the register to pay, the worker read his entire order which he said had never happened before. The worker then said, “Oh, so you’re a hungry boy today, huh?”

As Kasmire says in the video, “Now I’m gonna think about that with every bite I take of this Chipotle.”

Many viewers agreed that comments like this can feed into eating disorders and overall make people self-conscious about what they eat.

A Chipotle worker's body-shaming comment

Jovilyne singled out the clip of her receiving her Chipotle order and reposted it as a separate video, which received over 14 million views.

“Can we stop making unnecessary comments ab people’s body/weight pls & ty <3 #bodyshaming #momsoftiktok #foryou,” she wrote in the caption.

The creator was shocked and uncomfortable by the comment made by the Chipotle worker saying that her order probably weighed more than she did.

She responds quietly saying, “OK? That was a little unnecessary." Jovilyne continues to express her shock as she's driving away. “What? What the heck? I’m literally…”

Commenters react to Jovilyne's Chipotle experience

Some commenters thought Jovilyne was overreacting.

“This is totally not meant to be offensive,” one user wrote.

Another added, “She did not mean it like that lol. It’s a phrase tons of people use.”

But, most commenters on her trimmed video expressed disbelief over the remark.

One commenter said, “I would’ve slapped her cause what.”

A second viewer wrote, “I get this all the time too and always laugh it off but when you rly think about it like…it’s so rude and unnecessary lol.”

Jovilyne responded, saying that body-shaming in the drive-thru felt particularly unnecessary. “I usually tell ppl to not comment on my body but I totally didn’t expect this! I’m in my car, can barely see me/my body, & I was literally just trying to get my food…ppl suck!” she wrote.

A third user shared how she related to Jovilyne’s experience. “My friend is really really skinny and has underhanded 'compliments' about how tiny she is," they said. "It’s never cool and doesn’t come across as nice. You never know what someone is going through.”

‘That is damn good’: 5 TikTok food recreations you should make immediately  https://www.dailydot.com/news/tiktok-food-recreation-recipes/ Fri, 05 Jul 2024 07:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1614564 Hand holding phone taking picture of food

TikTok isn't just for dance challenges and funny videos anymore; it's become a hotspot for finding amazing recipes anyone can try at home.

While some questionable recipes have emerged in the past, such as the early stages of the pink sauce or the mega-viral feta pasta, you don’t have to look too hard to find recipes for delicious, easy homemade meals.

Another trend we keep seeing is recreation, where creators attempt to perfectly recreate popular restaurant items at home—often very successfully.

Below, we’ve listed five of the most accurate recipe recreations we could find on TikTok.

Former employee shares Domino’s Pizza recipe

Woman with pizza pan(l), Domino's pizza(c), Woman stretching dough(r)

A former Domino's employee and TikTok creator Maze (@mazerlazer_) shared her recipe for making a perfect Domino's cheese pizza at home.

“I’m showing you how to make a homemade cheese pizza from scratch that will rival any major pizza chain’s pizza for a fraction of the cost!” Maze wrote in her video’s caption.

She starts with her own pizza dough recipe, preheats the oven to 450 degrees, and stretches the dough using a rolling pin. Maze uses Great Value Traditional pasta sauce at room temperature to avoid uneven baking.

For the cheese, she layers shredded mozzarella and provolone, sprinkling from high up for a more even distribution.

After baking for 15 minutes, she brushes the crust with a mixture of garlic powder, Italian seasoning, Parmesan cheese, and melted butter.

“That is damn good,” Maze concluded after tasting her creation.

Impatient customer gets recipe for Popeyes frozen lemonade

Popeyes sign(l), Woman talking(c), Frozen lemonade(r)

A Florida woman (@therealbfamily) "accidentally" learned how to make Popeyes’ frozen lemonade at home because of her impatience.

In a recent video, she says she was tired of the long wait times after ordering a frozen lemonade when an employee handed her a carton of frozen Minute Maid concentrate.

“Yo, so I came to Popeyes thinking I was getting a frozen lemonade; however, it was an hour wait,” she says in the video. “Y’all, I told these people that I was gonna make it at the house jokingly. And look what I got? This is the mix that they use y’all.”

Some users found the interaction funny, while others were disappointed to learn that the lemonade wasn’t made fresh.

Here’s how you make homemade Pop Tarts

Expert shares trick to homemade Pop Tarts

TikToker Jordan (@jordan_the_stallion8) recently posted a video with a recipe for homemade Pop-Tarts, inspired by @cookingforthekids.

Jordan starts with, “The minute I heard you can make homemade Pop-Tarts that taste better than store-bought ones, I left in a hurry… Destiny waits for no one.”

In the kitchen, he combines half a cup of brown sugar, a tablespoon of flour, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt for the filling. He uses thawed pie crusts to create a giant Pop-Tart, pokes holes, and bastes it with butter.

For the icing, he mixes powdered sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and milk. “They’re delicious,” Jordan says. “They taste better than the original.”

Viewers supported the recipe amid calls to boycott Kellogg’s after the CEO’s comments on cereal affordability. One user commented, “I know what I’ll be making during the Kellogg’s strike.”

Former Chipotle employee shares vinaigrette recipe

Man talking(l+r), Chipotle sign(c)

With Chipotle confirming upcoming price increases due to ingredient costs and inflation earlier this year, customers are looking for alternatives.

TikToker @lilsaucelegend, who is a former Chipotle worker, recently shared how to make the chain's honey vinaigrette, among other popular dishes.

Here it is in full:

  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon adobo
  • 1 tablespoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups soy oil
  • 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/3 cup honey

In the clip, the TikToker claims Chipotle doesn't make employees sign NDAs, so he shared recipes for various items.

"To give Chipotle an even bigger middle finger than I already have, I’m going to tell you how to make their f*cking food," he says, also revealing recipes for salsa, rice, and guacamole.

Barista shares First Watch iced coffee recipe

Customer shares recipe for First Watch iced coffee at home after accidentally spending $30 on it in-store

A TikToker shared a recipe for First Watch’s iced coffee, helping viewers make it at home and save money.

Chloe (@chloe_xandria) posted a video recounting a recent visit to First Watch with her partner, Adam. They thought the iced coffee was unlimited, so Adam ordered seven. When the bill came, they were shocked to see a $30 charge for the coffee.

As they paid, Chloe said a kind barista revealed the recipe. She then showed viewers how to recreate it. With a glass of ice, she filled it 75% with whole milk and added one ounce (two tablespoons) of Monin Premium Iced Coffee Concentrate.

After mixing, Chloe took a sip and confirmed, “It tastes exactly like First Watch iced coffee.”

"Now you don’t have to pay $30," Chloe concluded.

‘I thought everyone was lying’: Customers leave Chipotle for Qdoba after shocking find inside burrito bowl https://www.dailydot.com/news/raw-chicken-chipotle/ Sun, 16 Jun 2024 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1599344 Chipotle customer orders chicken burrito, is shocked by what she finds inside

Chipotle is out here allegedly serving raw chicken again, and people are fed up.

Chipotle has been coming under constant fire in recent years, with people alleging that the Mexican-style food chain is being stingy with its servings despite its prices going up.

On top of that, a person noticed a bug in the cheese bin on their recent visit and a woman is now going viral after allegedly being served raw chicken.

"Chipotle, you are f*cking disgusting," Veronica (@vandvvlogs) says in her viral TikTok.

Customer finds something strange in bowl

"This was my last time. Everyone is right. I thought everyone was lying. I'm sorry to everyone. They were right," Veronica says.

In the viral video, which has nearly two million views as of Sunday, Veronica picks out the chicken from her Chipotle order and it's clear from the pink tone and reddish juice that the diced chunks are quite raw in the middle.

"You would think this is a prank, and I'm not pranking," Veronica says.

If you search "Chipotle Raw Chicken" on TikTok, dozens upon dozens of videos come up. The same goes for Googling it, as you'll find several forum discussions of people complaining about getting served raw chicken at Chipotle.

It’s common knowledge that eating something cross-contaminated with raw chicken or eating raw chicken itself can cause salmonella.

Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Most people recover from salmonella in four to seven days, sometimes needing to take antibiotics. But in the most severe cases, they need to be hospitalized.

Now, if a person wants to sue a place that sold them undercooked chicken, there's one catch—they need to have actually gotten sick from it. You can't just sue because they served you raw chicken; there needs to be an actual negative consequence attached to it, like getting hospitalized or having to miss work, law site 360 Training reported.

In this case, the lawsuit could cover medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and any other related expenses.

If you were served undercooked chicken and just want to stir up some potential trouble for the restaurant without going through a lawsuit, you can contact your local health department, and explain the situation to trigger an inspection.

It just gets worse

In a follow-up video, Veronica, along with her friend Vanessa, says that on top of the chicken being raw, the service was terrible.

She says the one thing the duo always asks for at Chipotle is extra cheese, but the worker was not having it. While Vanessa both signaled for extra cheese and asked for it out loud (even offering to pay extra for it) the worker refused to add more cheese on her meal.

"You know what? You want extra cheese? Go to the shop right down the street. Cause this is not the place for you to be acting like a fucking b*tch," the worker allegedly said.

"And this is not a f*cking [exaggeration] or nothing. She said b*tch. She said B * T C H," Vanessa recounts. She added that she initially thought the worker was saying "b*tch" in an endearing way but quickly figured out she wasn't.

After the horrible experience at Chipotle, the girls say they decided to try Qdoba, which is another fast-casual Mexican food spot.

People in the comments section of the girls' videos seemed upset on their behalf but not surprised.

"As someone who worked at chipotle, not a s a grilled, the amount of times i had to have the grillers put the chicken in specific back on the grill because it was raw is insane. so sorry girl," a former worker said.

"When i tell you i ONLY get the veggie bowl," a person shared.

"I was eating chipotle on my bed once and a bunch of rice fell out in it, and I picked it up to go throw it away, and there was a dead fly in there A DEAD FLY," another wrote.

‘The rumors are true’: Chipotle customer asks worker for more steak and gets a single piece. His burrito costs $19 https://www.dailydot.com/news/chipotle-19-dollar-burrito/ Sat, 15 Jun 2024 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1599062 Chipotle customer asks worker for more steak and gets a single piece

People love Chipotle, but they are not loving Chipotle's price increases. Many speculate that the fast-casual chain has increased its prices due to inflation and some state wage mandates. Now, customers are asking themselves, is it still worth buying?

A customer, Jonny Five (@iamjonnyfive), posted a TikTok chronicling their experience at Chipotle buying a burrito that they believe reflects Chipotle's price increase.

"Well, it's official. The rumors are true," says Jonny, more than likely referencing how Chipotle's portion sizes have been a debate as of late. "I asked the guy for more steak. I sh*t you not. He put a single piece of steak on that spoon. And I was like, 'Can I just have a few more?' He says, 'Would you like double?' I was like, 'Sure," and then he puts a scoop and a half on top of the burrito..."

Jonny explains that's not exactly what he was asking for but that "whatever," that he'll pay for it, until he sees the price.

"$19 for that burrito. I said, go f*ck yourself. I'm not paying that," Jonny says, recording as they're walking out of the store.

Chipotle under fire for portion sizes

Jonny is not alone in their frustration. Several people have noticed Chipotle's alleged portion sizes decrease. Even the CEO himself addressed this issue, denying that portion sizes changed, but still others weighed in on the trend to boycott Chipotle last month.

Additionally, it turns out that Chipotle has increased their menu prices several times in the past few years, and most recently nationwide in October, according to a spokesperson on Today.com.

“For the first time in over a year, we will be taking a modest price increase to offset inflation," the spokesperson told Today.com. These price increases have been felt more heavily in California, where Jonny Five was posting from, than in other states. According to an article by Restaurant Business, Chipotle's price increases resulted from the state's April passing of the mandatory $20 an-hour wage minimum for fast food workers.

Jonny's video has almost 256,300 views and almost 1,400 comments as of Saturday morning.

@iamjonnyfive $19?!?! Ridiculous 🤦🏽‍♂️ @Chipotle #fyp #chipotle ♬ original sound - Jonny Five

Viewers weigh in

Folks in the comments are just as frustrated as Jonny.

"Easy solution, boycott Chipotle," says one user.

"Meanwhile, I can go down to the small Mexican restaurant down the street and get a whole meal that’ll feed my family for 15 bucks. That’s with guac," mentions another.

"I stopped going to chipotle a year ago that always cold and small fkng burritos," shares one user.

It seems that Chipotle's price increases are really causing a stir with customers. Still, a report revealed that sales at Chipotle actually went up in the first quarter by 5%, as mentioned in the Restaurant Business article.

Only time will tell what customers will do, especially in California, with the Chipotle price increases. The Daily Dot has reached out for comment to Chipotle via email and to Jonny Five via Instagram and TikTok messages.

‘The audacity of this girl’: Chipotle customer tries kid’s meal hack for a quesadilla with 3 sides. It backfires https://www.dailydot.com/news/chipotle-quesadilla-meal-hack-backfires/ Mon, 10 Jun 2024 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1595178 Chipotle customer tries kids meal hack for quesadilla with 3 sides

People have found another reason to lower their opinion of the once well-liked fast food chain Chipotle.

The Mexican-themed restaurant has come under fire recently for alleged shrinking portion sizes and it seems the chain is taking another hit in the form of a viral TikTok claiming further chintzy behavior at the register.

"I feel like Chipotle is just going under fire for many different reasons right now but I'm going to add my story to the mix," TikToker Jaidyn Lynzee (@jaidynlynzee)btells her viewers at the beginning of the video.

Posted to Lynzee's TikTok account three days ago, the video has already garnered over 1.3 million views and counting.

A meal hack backfires

"So most times I go to Chipotle I get the kid's quesadilla," Lynzee tells her audience. "I use my [two] sides that come with it to make a mini/little burrito bowl. It's like so harmless."

She then states, "Let me make it clear to Chipotle that I'm not advertising that that's a hack, I'm literally saying if you take it away I'm going to be so livid because that's the only amount of food I can eat."

Lynzee then claims that her meal of choice was met with resistance by the cashier on duty during her most recent visit to the chain.

"[The cashier] rings me up for $8," she claims, incredulously. "I know it's not that much money but when the kid's meal is supposed to be $4.50, $8 is a little excessive."

According to Chipotle's website, a kid's quesadilla, with "a side of rice and beans," is currently $4.95.

"I was like, 'Oh, I'm so sorry, I think you might have charged me a little bit extra,' and she was like 'No, I didn't,' right off the bat," she alleges.

"I just said something along the lines of 'Oh yeah, normally it's right around $5 for my kid's quesadilla meal, not eight,' and she's like, 'Well, you got three sides.' And I was like, yeah, it comes with two sides," she claims.

Lynzee states in the video that she regularly orders the protein that comes included in the quesadilla on the side. But she claims the cashier charged her for the meat on her tray as an extra side.

"I said, 'Oh no, like the quesadilla comes with chicken.' She looked me dead in the eyes; she goes, 'No it doesn't.' I was like, 'The audacity on this girl,'" she claims.

According to Lynzee, a manager became involved. She alleges the cashier told the manager "'She's trying to get her three sides and her extra chicken from her kid's meal for free.' "

After Lynzee explained that the meal already comes with two sides, and urged the manager to "check [her] quesadilla," he eventually agreed with her.

"And he's like, 'Oh yeah, no, she's right,' and he takes all the stuff off and [the worker] looks at him and goes, 'Are you sure?'" she says.

"I think I need to take a break from getting my Chipotle's kid's meal," Lynzee says at the end of the video. "It's gotten to be a lot."

The Daily Dot has reached out to Lynzee via email for further comment.

Another alleged customer commented, "I literally got two kids meals today and she rung it up to 40 DOLLARS. WHAT."

Chipotle has faced continued criticism lately for allegedly skimping on its portion sizes. Recently, the company CEO took to TikTok to reassure customers that this was not the case, but the video is already being mocked across social media.

According to a June 3 article by Forbes, some customers began "filming workers making their order and then walking out mid-order if the portions seemed small—leading rumors to circulate online that the company told its employees to give larger portion sizes to customers who film. Chipotle told Forbes this isn’t true and the company 'did not issue instructions regarding filming.'"

‘When I pointed it out, the employee gave me an attitude’: Chipotle customer finds something strange in cheese bin https://www.dailydot.com/news/bug-in-chipotle-cheese-bin/ Sat, 08 Jun 2024 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1594672 Chipotle customer finds something strange in cheese bin

Another Chipotle customer has found a bug inside one of the brand's numerous locations.

The TikToker in question, Abby (@_abbypurdy_), posted a video showing an insect squirming in a full container of cheese.

"Y'all make this blow up because I noticed this bug in the cheese at Chipotle and when I pointed it out the employee gave me an attitude like I put it in there or something," the TikToker wrote in a text overlay of the video.

The clip shows a Chipotle food assembly line, with the camera focused on a bin of shredded cheese. Beside it is a tub of guacamole. As the video progresses, it becomes evident that there's something inside of the cheese bin that's wiggling around.

Abby zooms further into the bin—and it looks like the bug in question is an earwig. If you're worried about these little suckers crawling on your face and digging themselves inside of your head, don't worry, they don't do that.

According to 4NJPest, earwigs don't feast on the brain matter of humans and animals, or even flesh or blood but rather rotting food: "Despite the myth, earwigs don’t seek out ears. They also don’t directly attack and have no venom. They use their pincers in defense and will react if picked up or stepped on in the night. Their diet of rotting things means their presence is usually after other damage. However, if you are starting a composting project, be careful to avoid placing it too near the house."

If the bug in question very well is an earwig then it could mean that there's some grub in or around the area that is attracting the bugs.

Viewers are disgusted

Numerous other folks who Abby's video thought that the bug was an earwig too.

"IS THAT AN EARWIG," one person asked.

Another wrote, "EARWIG NOOOOOO."

Someone else thought that the Chipotle looked pretty messy, writing, "Why is the chipotle so dirty mine is spotless."

Others speculated that it was this very lack of cleanliness in a specific area of the restaurant that's ultimately attracting bugs.

"Whats actually probably attracting the bugs is Their drains," one wrote. "When I worked there every night we were supposed to clean out the drains to prevent this."

How to get rid of earwigs

According to this pest control company, this could very well be the case, as they write moist environments like dirty drains filled with bits of rotting food provide the perfect environment for earwigs to invade and feast: "Earwigs like to invade moist areas. You can prevent this by removing the temptation. If you notice any dripping pipes or leaky drains, repair them to avoid attracting earwigs."

And if you've got these bugs in your own kitchen, before you fork over a ton of money to have a professional come in and assess the situation, then you could try this natural solution: "Earwigs can overtake drains when there's standing water left in sinks or when drains are clogged. It's not possible to keep drains dry, but attending to clogged sinks in a timely matter is doable. When the water isn't draining quickly, combine two parts white vinegar with one part each salt and baking soda. Pour it down the sink and let it sit for 24 hours. The mixture will eat away at the gunk and afterward, it can be flushed with boiling water."

Some folks say that these little pests are a seasonal annoyance.

"Bro these bugs are in my house and i find them way too much now that it’s summer," one wrote.

This isn't the first time bugs and Chipotle have gone viral together on social media. A number of other TikTok users have uploaded videos of insects crawling around in various locations of the Mexican fast-casual chain. The big fear is that these bugs might somehow end up in a customer's food, like this person who had a less-than-stellar burrito eating experience.

Chipotle customer finds something strange in cheese bin

‘Guys the new burritos are the size of my palm’: Chipotle customers shocked when they see what a burrito looked like in 2019 https://www.dailydot.com/news/2019-chipotle-burrito-size/ Fri, 07 Jun 2024 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1594260 Chipotle customers shocked when they see what a burrito looked like in 2019

A viral TikTok featuring a flashback to the size of Chipotle burritos in 2019 has viewers reminiscing about their favorite era in the fast-casual chain’s history.

TikTok user Nayeli (@najeeellly) posted a video on Sunday that appears to be a flashback to a Chipotle visit about five years ago. The video shows Nayeli and a friend sitting at a Chipotle table with two burritos. Nayeli picks up her burrito and compares it to the size of her companion’s head. “Portions that ‘haven’t changed’ 2019,” the text overlay reads.

The video’s sound is from an appearance Chipotle CEO Brian Niccol made on CNBC’s Mad Money in May. In the interview with Jim Cramer, Niccol addressed claims on TikTok that Chipotle’s portions are smaller than in the past. “You’ve not shrunk the portions?” Cramer asks. “No, no,” Niccol responds. “We never have. From the beginning of time.”

But many, including Nayeli, don’t agree with that assessment. In the caption, she writes, “Guys the burritos now are the size of my palm.” The video has amassed 5.5 million views as of Friday morning. In the comments section, viewers shared their thoughts on when the chain was at its peak in terms of portion sizes and overall quality.

“I remember the first Chipotle burrito I got and was in shock how large it was,” one viewer wrote.

Several viewers noted that the burritos used to be extremely difficult for the employees to fold. “I remember the whole point of chipotle was that they stuffed the burritos so far u were surprised they could wrap and close them. Like that was the whole shtick,” one person commented.

Another viewer said, “I’d give anything for a 2003 Chipotle burrito.”

Not only is Niccol denying Chipotle has shrunk its portion sizes, but Forbes reported that the chain’s chief corporate affairs and food safety officer, Laurie Schalow, backed him up. “There have been no changes in our portion sizes, and we have reinforced proper portioning with our employees,” she told the outlet. She also noted that you can ask for an additional portion, although that does, of course, cost extra.

The Daily Dot reached out to Chipotle via email and Nayeli via TikTok direct message for comment.

‘I’m taking this video to Chipotle right now’: Chipotle CEO says portions have not gotten smaller and shares a tip. It backfires https://www.dailydot.com/news/chipotle-ceo-tip-portions/ Tue, 04 Jun 2024 12:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1590567 Chipotle CEO says portions have not gotten smaller and shares a tip

Chipotle CEO Brian Niccol recently denied claims that the chain’s portion sizes are getting smaller, despite hundreds of people taking to TikTok and other social media platforms with their complaints. In repudiating these claims, however, he gave a tip for disgruntled guests unhappy with their food sizes. And the internet is tearing him to shreds.

In a recent interview with Fortune, Niccol declared that “the portions have not gotten smaller.” But then, he went a step further. He said that if customers want more of a certain food item, such as rice or pico de gallo, to just give employees a special look. Niccol followed that with a kind of nod, adding that this will ensure “our guys—and women—give … a little more scoop.”

He said that this secret system—of giving employees a disappointed look—was “one of the things I think is great about Chipotle.”

“We always want to give people big portions that get them excited about their food,” Niccol said. “Our goal is to give people great experiences.”

Why are customers flaming Chipotle?

In his interview, Niccol said that giving out big portions is part of Chipotle’s brand.

“It’s kind of who we are,” he said. “Now if you want double the amount of meat, you’ve got to pay for it. But our goal is to get people really excited about, what I believe is, really delicious food.”

However, several customers have taken to social media to say that they’ve experienced something different.

“Bro has never been to a Chipotle,” one TikTok user declared.

A number others joked that Niccol’s suggestion of giving a disappointed look to workers is far from true.

“The cheat code for more Chipotle is just a quick shrug of disappointment, per the CEO,” one X user (@TyrannyBanks) wrote.

“Chipotle CEO says to just give the employees a disappointed shrug, then they will give you more food,” user @trustfundterry added.

Some made videos on TikTok poking fun at Niccol’s interview.

In one video, Mackenzie Barmen (@mackenziebarmen) re-recorded herself moonlighting as Niccol. Not only did she mock the expression that Niccol said disheartened customers should use to get more food, but she also made fun at his clarifying that Chipotle hires “guys” and “women.”

“The portions haven’t gotten smaller, guys,” Barmen (cosplaying as Niccol) said. She later joked that if customers “don’t get enough” then they should pretend that they’re going to hit the worker making their food. “Our guys will put more in there—and our girls. Our women,” she said. “But seriously, stop.”

Why are customers upset with Chipotle?

Many Chipotle customers believe that their portion sizes have shrunk over the years. On the Chipotle subreddit, one user said that they used to eat at the chain several times a week. “I haven’t been in a year,” they wrote. “It’s inconsistent, expensive, and the portions are terrible.”

The backlash has led some customers to try backhanded ways of getting bigger bowls. Some have claimed that recording workers while they prepare orders will lead to bigger meals, for instance. Others have advocated for boycotting the chain entirely.

Niccol’s interview comes amid rising prices at Chipotle. And, in May, the Daily Dot reported that Chipotle workers were reportedly told to gauge customers’ reactions when measuring out food.

Customers appeared skeptical that this new video would lead to further change. But, based on the comments, it’s fair to assume that people will be trying out Niccol’s disappointed shrug to attempt to get bigger portions.

“Can’t wait to see the ‘head nod’ Chipotle videos,” one TikTok user said.

“I’m taking this video to Chipotle right now,” another quipped.

“I just know that shrug to ask for bigger portions is gonna haunt him,” a third person commented.
