Ever wonder the story behind the abandoned cars you see in parking lots? TikTok user Tiana (@tiana.com) posted a viral TikTok revealing that she owns one of "those cars."

The car is covered in dust and dirt and grime. The tires are a bit deflated, and it looks like it hasn't been driven, let alone started, for months. Maybe folks have taken to using their finger to write little messages in it or vandalize it. Or maybe it's just been left as some type of modern, concrete resting art exhibit for folks to appreciate.

Tiana explains her reasoning for making this type of contribution to a parking lot.She says her vehicle's transmission died and, instead of dealing with the problem by calling a tow truck, she simply left it in this parking lot.

Her TikTok begins with her driving her vehicle over to the abandoned car. She speaks into the camera and gives her viewership the rundown.

Right at the top of her clip, a text overlay reads: "pov: u left ur car in a random parking lot for 9 months."

"My car transmission died and instead of like, doing something about it, I just left it in a parking lot, and it's been there for 9 months," she explains.

Tiana says she hasn't checked on the car in 8 months. "I don't know if it's still there now, I really hope it didn't get towed," she adds. "I'm gonna go check on it right now, and if it's still there we gotta go to the DMV and do some paperwork, so... I am praying, manifesting that the car is still there."

She pulls into the parking lot, praying. "I am here let's see if the car is still here please, please God, please."

Tiana gasps. "Wait a damn minute...wait," she says, looking around before her eyes widen and her mouth opens. "It's still here! It's still here what? There she is."

9 months, no tow

The TikToker shares her shock that the vehicle was never towed away, while expressing continued frustration that she has to deal with it now.

"Actually can't believe that the car's still here it's been 9 months just parked in a parking lot and it didn't get towed," she says. "Now I gotta do the thing that I've been putting off for 9 months, which is going to the DMV. It's crazy guys. I don't even want to sell my car, like I'm trying to junk it... I don't want money. I just want it out of my sight, and I have to go to the DMV."

In another clip, Tiana explains that she was finally able to get the car junked. She paid $600 for a tow truck company to remove the car and received a check for the vehicle, but says that it didn't even cover the cost of getting the whip towed out of the lot. For the brief amount of time the vehicle appears on camera, there doesn't appear to be any significant damage to the car's exterior.

How to get rid of a vehicle

If you've found yourself in a similar situation to Tiana's, there are probably some better ways to go about maximizing the amount of money you could get for junking it.

Contacting local mechanics and providing them with a vehicle accident report could save you some money. If they check out the car and see it's mechanically sound, they could eat the cost of the tow truck (sometimes they have their own vehicles or have agreements with local towers where they can get cheaper prices.) Other car junk removal services predicate their entire business on this practice as well that can help you, unlike Tiana, not lose money on getting a car removed from a parking lot.

Despite some of Tiana's viewers who called her out for leaving the vehicle for 9 months, others said they were in similar positions.

"I’m literally going through the same situation but I hope I don’t have to pay the dmv $600," one wrote.

Someone else said, "I instantly followed you when you said you left your car for nine months. I did the same thing once and saw it every day on my way to/from work. The transmission went out too! Never got towed."

Another person added, "Nah your real for this. When mine broke down i damn near did the same thing."

However, there were others who thought that a better solution would've just been for her to repair her Hyundai.

"The way the trans went out in my car and I got it repaired because i couldn’t afford a new car," one user said.

Another TikToker added, "I have the same Hyundai car and my transmission went out recently. I bought another one for $540 gonna have my compadre help me swap it. Need my car for work."

And there was someone else who left their car somewhere for even longer than Tiana did: "my nissan trans went out and it’s been at a nissan dealership for almost 2 yrs bc they couldn’t fix it and i don’t care to get it lmao."

‘You pay the car note on that?’: Walmart shopper confronts men after she catches them leaning on her car https://www.dailydot.com/news/men-leaning-womens-car-walmart-parking-lot/ Mon, 10 Jun 2024 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1595261 Walmart shopper confronts men after she catches them leaning on her car

You'd figure some people would have enough sense to avoid touch something that doesn't belong to them. However, some individuals out there who think it's all right to lean on someone else's car, much to the chagrin of one Walmart shopper. Zary (@zaryunaa) shared a clip on TikTok of her confronting two car leaners in the big-box store's parking lot.

Maybe the duo were wearing jeans with rivets on them that could scratch the paint. Or maybe they had claggy bottoms that hadn't been properly washed, you wouldn't want them squishing that thing all over your whip. Or maybe, you just flat-out don't want someone draping their body all over your property. Whatever the reason, Zary wasn't happy.

As she walked to her vehicle after shopping at Walmart, she noticed there were two men standing near her whip. One of the guys in the video was leaning on her vehicle.

As she approaches the men, she calls them out on their behavior, her phone recording the entire time. "I just wanna know. You pay, you pay the car note on that?" Zary can be heard asking from behind the camera.

One of the men responds in what sounds like a confused manner.

"You pay the car note on that?" She asks again. The man replies to her and it sounds like he tells her that it isn't his car.

"I know cause it's mine," she tells the man, who then apologizes for hanging around her vehicle. "Oh, OK, I thought you was trying to pay a bill or something."

The man and his friend laugh as they walk off-camera to a different part of the parking lot.

Zary noted in the caption just how upset she was to see the men leaning on her vehicle: "Like why are yall leaning on my car in walmart parking lot!!!! my baby? MY CAR!!"

Several TikTokers expressed how much they enjoyed how Zary handled the situation, but there were also folks who gave props to the men for not getting defensive after she approached them.

One user applauded that they immediately acknowledged they understood where the woman was coming from: "Bro said “no, its her car” & fell out laughing he understood, i love us."

Others wondered what the nature of the meeting between the two men in the parking lot was in the first place.

"The man in the green was trying to sell him something, they always doing that n the parking lot & they stopped on my car," one viewer speculated.

But for the most part, folks found the entire situation comedic.

"Not them having a full meeting on your car," one laughed.

Another person shared how they were able to handle a similar situation: "I turned on my alarm one time."

@zaryunaa like why are yall leaning on my car in walmart parking lot!!!! my baby? MY CAR!! 😂 dpmo #walmartfinds #walmart #fypage #foryou #comdey #funny ♬ original sound - ZARY

Zary isn't the only person who's taken to social media in order to blast the practice of folks sitting on other people's cars. In a post uploaded to Reddit's r/rant sub, one person derided the practice of leaning or sitting on strangers' cars.

"I just can’t believe that this has to be said," they wrote. "Don’t sit on people’s cars. Whatever reasoning you might have, i honestly don’t care. Unless you’re having a heart attack or something, don’t f*cking sit on people’s cars! It’s simple, honestly. You can sit on your own car. Up to you. But not mine. Not other people’s. A car bonnet is not a public bench."

This user said that every time they leave work, they notice people sitting on their car. When he calls them out, the people in question aren't apologetic about it. The irate car owner went on to say that they've even tried the car alarm trick themselves to scare folks off their car, but that people end up spitting on his vehicle as a result.

Folks on this LX forum also called out this same practice, questioning why this seems to be such a common practice. One user chalked it up to folks just being "selfish" and "oblivious" of their surroundings.

The Daily Dot has reached out to Zary via TikTok comment for further information.

‘I guess we’ll keep those DEI initiatives on a PowerPoint’: Pregnant woman at male-dominated company says her access to close parking was taken away https://www.dailydot.com/news/pregnant-worker-denied-accessible-parking/ Thu, 06 Jun 2024 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1592949 Pregnant woman at male-dominated company says her access to close parking was taken away

A pregnant woman called out her male-dominated company for taking away her access to parking close to the office building.

Tammy (@tammyzayy) aired her grievances with the company’s human resources department on TikTok in a post that received 519,200 views as of this writing.

She starts off by saying, “Here is a real day-in-the-life example of what it’s like to be a woman working in corporate America,” before providing some background on the entire situation.

“I am currently six and a half months pregnant,” Tammy explains, as she pans the camera to her belly, and adds that she has to walk quite a distance from the main parking lot to the office building where her desk is. But, she says, this wasn’t always the case.

“Up until a few weeks ago, I was approved and allowed by HR to park in the visitor’s lot, which is significantly closer to the building,” she says.

“However,” Tammy continues, “our HR department has decided to single me out and communicate to my boss, not even to myself directly, and tell me that I am no longer allowed to park near the front of the building even though I am heavily pregnant.”

She says she politely responded with a “strongly-worded email” listing the many reasons the company should set aside a few parking spaces for pregnant workers. She adds that the company already has reserved parking for motorcyclists and employee of the month. She also shows her audience the visitor’s lot, which has a number of free spaces.

Tammy notes that her company has also recently been trying to implement a number of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. She says she mentioned this in her email and added that having reserved spaces for pregnant workers would show a real commitment to these DEI initiatives.

However, the HR department reportedly told Tammy that there were no available spaces to reserve two parking spots for pregnant people.

“Mind you, I work in a company where it is 90 percent male,” Tammy says, adding, “I guess we’ll keep those DEI initiatives on a PowerPoint instead of being implemented in the workplace.”

What can she do?

As many commenters on Tammy’s post pointed out, pregnant workers now have various legal protections. 2023’s Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) requires that companies provide “reasonable accommodations” to pregnant workers, and a number of viewers suggested that Tammy bring this to the attention of her HR department.

“I might bring up the new pregnant workers fairness act… where they are supposed to provide reasonable accommodations,” one commenter said.

“Closer parking would be considered a reasonable accommodation. You should ask them specifically to put in writing they are denying your accommodation,” another suggested.

@tammyzayy (Mind you I work a hypbrid schedule and am only in the office 1 or 2x a week) Love fighting for womens rights in 2024!!! #dayinmylife #workingwoman #womeninbusiness #pov ♬ original sound - Tammy

Some also said the pregnant worker should file an official complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) if her company continued to refuse her access to a parking space closer to the building.

“By law they must accommodate you. Call the EEOC and make a complaint. If they conclude you’ve been discriminated for pregnancy, you can sue and get a pay day, while teaching them a lesson,” one viewer wrote.

Someone with a job in human resources also left a comment saying, “HR here, please name the first and last names of those HR employees in your EEOC complaint … Let me know if I can help.”

‘It’s the full parking space’: Mercedes driver gets a parking ticket in front of his house—for unexpected reason https://www.dailydot.com/news/mercedes-driver-parking-ticket/ Sat, 25 May 2024 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1584616 Mercedes driver gets a parking ticket in front of his house—for unexpected reason

An internet user has sparked discussion after claiming he received a parking ticket in an unexpected place.

In a clip with over 628,000 views as of Saturday, TikTok user Lucas (@lucasventures) shows two cars parked in a driveway.

“Just got home, and on the Ring camera I saw that we’re getting a ticket. And for what?” he asks at the beginning of the video. “For obstructing the sidewalk over 10 inches.”

Lucas then shows the entirety of the driveway. While his vehicles are, in fact, partially blocking the sidewalk, there also appears to be no other way to park his cars in his driveway without blocking the sidewalk.

“It’s the full parking space,” he says. “I can’t do anything about that.”

Why it’s illegal to block the sidewalk

According to Los Angeles law, where Lucas is based, it is illegal for a resident to obscure access to a sidewalk unless they are temporarily doing so during the active practice of loading or unloading.

The reason stated for this law is that obstructing the sidewalk violates the Americans with Disabilities Act. This is because blocking a sidewalk makes it difficult or impossible for wheelchair users or people with other mobility equipment to navigate the path.

Multiple commenters echoed this sentiment.

“My husband is in a wheelchair and it’s a constant bob and weave into the road when cars obstruct the sidewalk,” said a user.

Commenters share their thoughts

In the comments section, many users implored Lucas to simply park his cars in his garage.

“Perfectly functional two car garage right there, bud,” a user wrote.

“This is actually a very simple concept,” added another.

“Garage for storage? Best keep your rides garage kept. At least one brother. Plus you can back the Benz more,” offered a third.

That said, some claimed that whoever was selling or inspecting the house should have been clearer about this issue before Lucas purchased it.

“Right when I saw the video I knew it was for block the sidewalk. Sucks but gotta consider that when buying/renting a house. Neighbors will call if they walk through your portion of the sidewalk,” explained a commenter.

“The builder should have made your driveway long enough to actually park but this is something that should have been caught by an inspector,” stated a second.

“That should have been disclosed to you in writing by your Realtor or Property Manager,” echoed a further TikToker.

The Daily Dot reached out to Lucas via Instagram direct message.

‘I just wouldn’t pay it because what are they really gonna do’: Customer says he got a parking ticket while shopping at CVS. Does he have to pay? https://www.dailydot.com/news/cvs-diamond-parking-tickets/ Sun, 14 Jan 2024 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1496904 Man says he got a parking ticket from CVS

Parking tickets are the bane of most people's lives, but what about when a parking ticket is unfair? That was the case for TikToker @petrolectric, as he claimed he was the victim of a "fraudulent" parking ticket in a now-viral TikTok.

"Just got my first parking ticket, not from the city, from a private company," he said in the video, which has now amassed 1.2 million views as of Sunday. "This was at a CVS lot. I've been thousands of times. It's 60 minutes to park there as long as you're shopping inside CVS, and it says I walked off. Well, that's true. I did walk off because I had to walk off the lot to walk into the store."

"So obviously," he continued, "A bogus ticket of $26.50. And it says I have to pay within 15 days, [but] I was there for 10 minutes."

Showing the ticket to viewers, he added that "there's all this threatening stuff about what [they're] gonna do."

"Well, these particular douchebags are called Diamond Parking and what they're doing is illegal in California, and I would assume most other states," he said.

@petrolectric These fraudulent parking companies are handing out tickets! Don’t fall for these, they have no legal standing. Anyone else deal with these scumbags? . . . #diamondparking #parkingticket #parkingtickets #privatetickets #parking #parkinglot #parkingfine #ticket #citation #parkingcitation #terriblecompany #parked ♬ original sound - Petrolectric

"Federal law says you cannot fine an amount that's beyond what the service costs," he said. "Well, the service was free parking so they can fine me zero. I'm totally fine with paying that because that's all they're ever going to get from me, and I hope you do the same."

Petrolectric didn't immediately respond to the Daily Dot's request for comment via TikTok comment.

In the comments, it became clear that this "fraudulent" parking issue is a lot bigger than just one person.

"I got a ticket from Diamond last Tuesday and the ticket is $86," one commenter revealed. "Funny, cause I'm not paying the ticket either."

"I had a similar issue with Diamond Parking," another added. "I prepaid for parking with an app, but because I parked on the left side and not the right, I got a ticket."

Other commenters pointed out that it's difficult for the parking company to enforce the fine. ''Pay within 15 days' or what?" one user asked.

‘You think you would have got a warning?’: Viewers divided after woman leaves note for police officer parked in her assigned spot https://www.dailydot.com/news/police-park-in-tenants-assigned-spot/ Wed, 03 Jan 2024 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1482018 Police car in spot(l), Woman(c), Note to cop(r)

A woman who allegedly found an Orlando Police Department officer parked in her assigned spot has left a note threatening to get the officer towed if they persist in parking where they shouldn't.

The video documenting the transgression came from creator Ruby Red (@ruby.red53), and since it went up on TikTok on Friday, it's drawn more than 327,700 views and nearly 400 comments debating whether she was in the right.

The video starts with the sound of sirens in the background and the creator saying, "OK, so we all have assigned parking, and not only is it assigned, we have to pay to park, OK?"

Ruby Red then notes that she pays for her parking space every month, yet she says she's repeatedly found the officer's car parked there. "So I'm gonna leave him a little notey-note and let him know that [I'd] hate to have to tow him."

She then shows the note that she eventually wraps around the handle of the police car. It reads: "Hey officer, this is my parking space (assigned parking). Please don't park here. I would hate to have to get your vehicle towed," with a smiley face at the end.

Her accompanying caption reads, "I mean no one is above the law right?"

Commenters shared their thoughts on the matter.

"I'm not leaving no note," one commenter offered. "He would have had to pick his truck up from the tow yard."

"I wouldn't give him a warning," another agreed. "Just have him towed."

"I doubt that they tow it but it's worth a shot to get the cop in trouble," someone else said.

Others pointed out that it's unlikely a tow company would actually take a police vehicle away, but someone else had a suggestion for what to do.

"Call the department and let them know his cruiser number and he won't do that again."

But one claimed that even official vehicles can be towed, saying, "As a ex tow driver I've impounded a Secret Service vehicle for illegally parking so I would gladly tow this one for you."

At least one used the video as a springboard to complain about police in the Central Florida city, noting, "Saw two Orlando police using express on I-4 going over 80 mph, the speed limit is 60… yet they pull over people for speeding."

In response to a commenter asking if the officer was "on a late night creep," Ruby Red posted a follow-up video showing that the car and note remained in her parking spot the next day. "He had him a long night, y'all," the TikToker noted.

However, in a second follow-up posted Wednesday, five days after her initial video, the TikToker said her "little notey-note worked fine," and she didn't have to contact her leasing office, a towing company, or the officer's precinct or sergeant.

"So, as you can see, I'm in my park, and he's over there," Ruby Red said as she panned her camera to show that the officer was parked next to her with one space in between. "I don't know who park he's in—and don't give a damn. I got my park." She concluded by declaring the issue "resolved" and reminding viewers, "No one is above the law.

‘Paying to park at work should be a crime’: Worker forced to Uber to work because parking is more expensive https://www.dailydot.com/news/paying-to-park-at-work/ Mon, 27 Nov 2023 14:01:06 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1440058 Worker forced to Uber to work because parking is more expensive

In some parts of the United States, there are hidden costs to living and working in particular areas, especially in large cities.

Whether it is a higher average rental rate or a generally more expensive grocery bill, folks in certain parts of the country might have to pay more for certain aspects of living in a high-demand or otherwise highly-populated area. Another place this difference in the cost of living can show up is car maintenance and storage. In places like New York City, residents can expect to pay an average of $570, or about $19 per day.

But this is not an experience limited to places like NYC—a former Nashville, Tenn. nurse says that up until recently leaving the profession, she actually used Uber to get to work because it was more affordable than the daily parking rate she was expected to pay if she drove herself.

"Paying to park at work should be a crime," TikTok user Sarah Krugel (@sarahkrugel1) captioned her video, which has drawn over 112,000 views on the platform as of Monday morning.

In more recent videos, the poster shared that she has altogether left the profession for a variety of reasons, including the parking.

The Daily Dot has reached out to Krugel via TikTok direct message regarding the video.

Several viewers commented that they were in similar boats across the country, choosing to take ride shares to work instead of paying for a daily parking rate. Some shared the rates they were expected to pay, ranging from $11 to $30 daily.

"It’s $30 a day to pay for parking at my job," one commenter wrote.

"I live 9 min from work there’s absolutely no reason to drive and pay I just Uber," another said.

"My friend who works in philly does the same loll it’s cheaper to uber," a further user shared.

Others found the idea that an employee would be required to pay for parking at their job untenable, especially in the healthcare industry.

"Employees should always get free parking!" one commented.

"100% if your employees are on-site, the organization should be paying for parking..." another commenter wrote.

"Charging healthcare workers for parking is insane, without a subsidy mine would be $250 a month," a third user said.

‘So what have you been paying for!’: Student says she pays to park in reserved spot every day. Her car was still booted https://www.dailydot.com/news/fake-boot-scam/ Thu, 28 Sep 2023 18:45:57 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1406245 Student says she pays to park in reserved spot every day. Her car was still booted

A user on TikTok has sparked discussion after alleging a parking garage placed a boot on her car and a sticker on her window after the garage claimed she violated the rules by parking in a reserved spot. The only problem? She paid for reserved parking—and the company’s boot may not have been legal.

In a video with over 3.5 million views, TikTok user Holly Mac (@hollynne16) says that she returned to her car to find it booted and marked with a sticker. Upon calling the relevant parties, she was informed that, though she paid for daily reserved parking, “reserved” spots were only given to those who paid by the month, something she says she was not aware of.

In response to this, she called the parking authorities about her boot. After a two-hour phone call, they claimed to have no record of having her car booted.

@hollynne16 Worst experience ever #terrible #fyp #foryoupage #foryou #fypシ #ran ♬ original sound - Holly Mac

After she learned this, she attempted to contact the garage’s management using the two phone numbers they provided. Both were incorrect and did not actually lead to garage management.

Out of options, she contacted the police, who informed her that the boot may be fake.

Following about 3 hours of waiting, the police came and attempted to resolve the situation.

@hollynne16 Replying to @Michelle <3 #greenscreen #fyp #forgou #fypシ #foryoupage #crazy ♬ original sound - Holly Mac

The police guided Holly Mac to the manager’s office, which the TikToker describes as “hidden.” There was no one in the office, so the group tried to call management using the phone numbers listed on the office. She did not receive an answer, so she left a voicemail with her information and number.

Holly Mac then took the police to her car.

“They could not believe what they saw,” Holly Mac recalls. “It was like, ‘We have never seen this before. We’ve never seen the color, and we have never seen a boot in a parking garage.’” They also theorized that they could remove the boot by towing the car, as they claimed the boot was incorrectly attached.

At this point, the parking garage manager called Holly Mac, and the sergeant on the scene demanded to speak to the manager.

“[The sergeant] was like, ‘What you did to this girl’s car is illegal,’” the TikToker recounts. “He’s like, ‘You can call 911, and we can give you permission to put a ticket on the car, or tow it’—if it’s like a crazy bad situation—‘but you can never put a boot on a car, because that’s basically stealing the girl’s car.’”

The manager allegedly countered that, as the car was parked on private property, he had the right to boot the car.

Laws around this are a bit complicated. The state of New Jersey, where the TikToker is based, appears to have no laws banning the practice, but many individual municipalities do regulate whether people can put boots on cars on private property.

Once a tow truck driver arrived, Holly Mac was able to have the boot removed and could drive away, though she says she has not received any compensation for her lost time and damage to her car done by the boot and sticker.

In the comments section, many users encouraged the TikToker to pursue legal action against the garage.

“Girl press charges or they’re just going to keep doing it,” suggested a commenter.

“Don’t let it go, I will only inflate his ego and will do it to the next person,” echoed another. “Put him in his place and get compensation.”

“See if your school has legal services for students!! mine does and it’s all free!!!” noted a third.

‘Only about a quarter of them are actually used’: Target shopper calls out store for taking up good parking spaces for drive-up orders https://www.dailydot.com/news/target-drive-up-parking-spaces/ Mon, 24 Jul 2023 17:36:22 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1368287 target shopper calls out store for taking up good spaces for drive-up orders

In a trending TikTok video, a Target customer called out the retailer for marking more and more parking spots as pick-up order spots.

In the video, creator @user10765382019374 films the parking lot of her local Target. About a dozen of the spots closest to the Target entrance are marked and reserved for "Drive Up" orders.

"Target after installing 20+ drive up spots when in reality only about a quarter of them are actually used," the text overlay on the video reads. "They really don't want us here huh."

The spots are numbered, and based on the video, the TikToker's local target has at least 23 reserved spots.

@user10765382019374 Why do I feel like it had to w theft #targetdriveupfail #fyp ♬ EverybodyMakesMistakes - Jason

Target's Drive Up orders allow customers to choose and pay for their items through the Target app, get notified when their order is ready, and have their order delivered to their car for free—eliminating the need to go into the store and shop for the items themselves.

Soon, customers across the nation will even be able to make Target returns without the need to leave their cars, Forbes reported. The retailer did a test run for Drive Up returns in Minneapolis and intends to roll out the program to 2,000 stores by the end of the summer.

Pick-up orders boomed in popularity during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and have remained a part of the shopping experience.

The shopper's video has garnered more than 215,000 views and nearly to 250 comments as of Monday afternoon.

"Why do I feel like it had to w theft," @user10765382019374 speculated in the caption.

Commenters reported varied experiences with how full the Drive Up spots tend to be at their own Target locations.

"Ours are always full even after they added some," one person said.

"My target has 25! At most I've seen 6 cars there," another wrote.

"Mine has like 20 and they’re almost always full," a third commenter noted.

A Drive Up order enthusiast shared that they find the service to be quite convenient. "My target only has about 8 of them," they wrote. "I do drive up about 90% of the time now and I love it. I can order at work and pick up on the way home."

Another person insinuated that the TikToker should just use the Drive Up spots as regular parking spots if they're having trouble finding parking. "I just park in them and shop normally lol," they admitted.

While one commenter was confused about why the premium spots are used for Drive Up, it's likely to make the process more efficient for the employees coming out with customer orders.

target shopper calls out store for taking up good spaces for drive-up orders

In a trending TikTok video, a Target customer called out the retailer for marking more and more parking spots as pick-up order spots.

In the video, creator @user10765382019374 films the parking lot of her local Target. About a dozen of the spots closest to the Target entrance are marked and reserved for "Drive Up" orders.

"Target after installing 20+ drive up spots when in reality only about a quarter of them are actually used," the text overlay on the video reads. "They really don't want us here huh."

The spots are numbered, and based on the video, the TikToker's local target has at least 23 reserved spots.

‘MY BLOOD IS BOILING’: Man harasses little person for parking in accessible spot—he tries to reach into her car https://www.dailydot.com/irl/little-person-parking-spot/ Thu, 20 Jul 2023 22:28:13 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1366499 blurred man speaking to woman in car holding handicapped parking sign with caption "my mom was harassed at the grocery store today for having a handicapped sticker" (l) blurred man speaking to woman in car holding handicapped parking sign with caption "my mom was harassed at the grocery store today for having a handicapped sticker" (c) blurred man speaking to woman in car holding handicapped parking sign with caption "my mom was harassed at the grocery store today for having a handicapped sticker" (r)

A viral video captured footage of a man harassing a woman of short stature for having an accessible parking sticker.

The TikTok was posted on June 19 by Peet Monzingo (@peetmonzingo), a creator who posts videos about his family members. In the viral clip, a man yells at Monzingo's mother, who is a little person, through her car window about why she needs an accessible parking sticker.

He then reaches into the car toward Monzingo's mother, and when she rolls up her window, he starts knocking on it.

"I need it," Monzingo's mother says to the man about her handicapped parking authorization. "For me, I gotta get my ramp out, so I need extra space. It's very very hard. I can't walk that far."

In the video's caption, Monzingo explained that the man saw him and his mother go into the grocery store and waited by his mother's car for them to return. After "quizzing" Monzingo's mother about why she needed to park in an accessible spot, "he tried to take her handicap sticker and POUNDED ON THE WINDOWS," Monzingo wrote.

"He simply just didnt understand what its like to be a little person," Monzingo wrote. "We were trying to explain that its not just about being short and how my mom’s done nothing wrong by using a service she clearly needs."

Monzingo also said that incidents like the one he captured are the reason he posts about his family and dwarfism.

"This needs to change," he wrote of attitudes surrounding little people. Dwarfism is a recognized disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

On Thursday, Monzingo's video had over 6 million views.

Many commenters on Monzingo's video were horrified by the man's actions.

"I’m sorry you had to go through that!" @ourextrasweetgwen commented. "Why people think they can ask about medical history and reasons why you need it is insane!"

"Why can’t people just mind their business & stop being confrontational!" @thatchiclexis wrote.

"MY BLOOD IS BOILING," @shelby_holloway commented. "I’m so sorry you both had to experience this."

Other commenters who identified themselves as disabled said they'd had similar experiences.

"People have such a small minded view of what disability 'should' look like," @forest_goblin_ wrote. "I’m disabled too, but not paralysed. People will be awful."

"I’m so sorry this happened. I’m disabled and 'look fine,'" @chroniclexi__ commented. "I’ve been harassed for using my pass. It’s not okay."
