Vice President Kamala Harris is developing a new fan base: white dudes.

As her presidential campaign ramps up, a group of white men formed a coalition known as "White Dudes for Harris."

The group plans to kick off Monday night via a virtual call that will feature speakers including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D), singer Josh Groban, actor Mark Hamill, and others.

"Together, we aren’t going to sit around and let the MAGA crowd bully other white guys into voting for a hateful and divisive ideology because we understand that under MAGA everyone loses," the RSVP page for Monday's call reads. "We know that as white dudes, we have both a strong, and positive role to play in America’s shared future, and it begins with all of us cutting through the MAGA crap and reminding the folks who have co-opted American symbols what America actually means."

White Dudes for Harris also launched a $35 hat with its slogan ahead of the meeting.

The group said that nearly 80,000 people have RSVP'd and it collectively raised more than $300,000 in support of Harris' campaign.

What do Democrats think about White Dudes for Harris?

Democratic influencers and those planning to attend the call praised the initial organizing.

"Tonight's call represents a promising attempt to create a movement and a permission structure to lift many white dudes out of the MAGA whirlpool they've gotten sucked into," wrote one person on X. "It will allow for tough but necessary conversations that can create healing, movement, and unity around Kamala Harris and Democratic candidates like her."

He continued: "The guys organizing tonight’s call were inspired by the Black women and men, as well as all the other folks, who've organized calls over the last week. White men haven't organized ourselves well around Democratic values, which has been detrimental to the country and our ability to win elections."

Joked the pro-Democrat account VoteDarkBrandon: "Folks—white boy summer is here," riffing on the right-wing attempts to claim the phrase.

At the same time, critics of Harris were quick to put the group on blast.

Some accounts posted images of transgender women while making fun of the initiative, while others took digs at the manliness of the attendees.

"White dudes for Harris?? The Democrats return to their segregationist roots," slammed one person.

"If you belong to 'White Dudes for Harris', you've turned in your man card and didn't even realize it," snarked someone else.

"These dudes would be melting down if there was a 'White Dudes for Trump,'" mused another person.

Asked one user: "How beta-male can you be?"

Conservative influencers who don’t know how ChatGPT works lose it over Trump assassination response https://www.dailydot.com/debug/donald-trump-assassination-attempt-google-chatgpt/ Mon, 29 Jul 2024 15:34:16 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1634236 ChatGPT question "Was trump almost assassinated?" and reply "There is no verified information or evidence that Donald Trump was "almost assassinated" during his presidency or afterward. There have been various threats and security incidents, but none have involved a serious attempt on his life that would qualify as an assassination attempt." (l) Donald Trump holding his ear (r)

Right-wingers online think that Google and ChatGPT are systematically repressing information about the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump two weeks ago.

The prominent right-wing account Libs of TikTok put ChatGPT on blast for stating that "there is no verified information or evidence that Donald Trump was 'almost assassinated' during his presidency or afterward" when asked by a user.

"They’re erasing history in real time," Libs of TikTok concluded.

https://twitter.com/libsoftiktok/status/1817669136560087362

"Election interference in full effect," replied another account.

"This is some serious Orwellian stuff," wrote someone else.

But the post itself got a Community Note stating that "GPT 4o has a training cutoff date of October 2023" so the information it provides—when it doesn't rely on pulling from a web search—will only go up until that point.

Somebody else who worded the question differently—asking "Was President Trump almost assassinated two weeks ago?"—received updated information due to ChatGPT relying on web search.

When tested by the Daily Dot, the latter question similarly returned the same, correct result. However, the first phrasing did not, with ChatGPT stating that "while there have been threats and minor incidents, there has not been a significant assassination attempt on Trump."

Libs of TikTok made the same accusation against Meta AI, though like ChatGPT, the system does not always have access to up-to-date information.

"We’re witnessing the suppression and coverup of one of the biggest most consequential stories in real time," the account said. "Simply unreal."

As of Monday, Meta displays the correct information when given the same prompts Libs of TikTok provided.

But the main source of outrage online was not the sometimes outdated AI systems, but Google Search.

"Google is already suppressing searches on the 'assassination attempt on TRUMP,'" wrote one X account along with a screenshot of the Trump assassination attempt not being shown as a recommended search when typing similar inquiries. "This is clearly an attempt to prevent political support for Donald Trump. Big Tech is once again r*gging the presidential election."

"I saw someone post on X that Google was Suppressing President Trump’s Assassination Attempt on their Google search engines. And IT’S TRUE!!!" wrote Rob Schneider. "That is why Google needs to be BROKEN UP by the FCC!"

A Daily Dot search for the same and similar terms yielded no search recommendations. "Assassination attempt on truman," however, autopopulated.

The screenshots caught the attention Republican lawmakers, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who called the results "insane."

"Google is engaged in active election interference," Cruz continued. "They are gas-lighting the American people & trying to erase the attempted assassination of Trump."

"Why is Google suppressing the search about the Trump assassination attempt?" echoed Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kansas). These are all screenshots from this morning. Has there been a dramatic increase in Truman biographers in the last two weeks? I’ll be making an official inquiry into Google this week - I look forward to their response."

A spokesperson for Google told the New York Post that there was no “manual action taken on these predictions” and that autocomplete suggestions are impacted by terms "associated with political violence.”

Nonetheless, Trump not being included in autocomplete suggestions drew the wrath of many—some of whom, like Cruz, are accusing the tech giant of attempting to sway the 2024 election.

"Election interference?" asked Elon Musk.

"Big Tech is trying to interfere in the election AGAIN to help Kamala Harris," concluded Donald Trump Jr. "We all know this is intentional election interference from Google. Truly despicable."

Jennifer Aniston unloads on J.D. Vance for bashing women who can’t have children https://www.dailydot.com/debug/jennifer-aniston-jd-vance-childless-cat-ladies/ Thu, 25 Jul 2024 15:37:31 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1631461 Jennifer Aniston (l) J.D. Vance (r)

Right-wingers online are miffed Jennifer Aniston criticized Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance for claiming in 2021 that the U.S. was being run by "childless cat ladies."

Aniston weighed in on a recirculating Fox News clip from 2021 where Vance complained that "we're effectively run in this country, via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too."

Vance—who at the time was running for Senate—specifically called out Vice President Kamala Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) for not having children.

“And it’s just a basic fact—you look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC—the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children," Vance said. "And how does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?”

Harris does not have biological children but has been a stepmother for nearly ten years. Buttigieg, at the time of Vance's remarks, was in the process of trying to adopt. The Buttigiegs announced the birth of their adopted twins in September 2021.

The Friends star wrote on her Instagram story Wednesday: “I truly can't believe this is coming from a potential VP of The United States."

"Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day," she continued. "I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too."

In June, Vance, along with the vast majority of Republican senators, blocked The Right to IVF Act, which would have codified the right to in vitro fertilization and lowered its cost.

Republicans criticized the bill as an election-year stunt, though Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Katie Britt (R-Ala.) did introduce a competing bill. That bill did not move forward due to opposition by one of The Right to IVF Act's sponsors, who argued it would create burdensome requirements that would force IVF clinics to close.

Aniston does not have any children but previously spoke out in a 2022 cover story for Allure about undergoing multiple rounds of IVF.

“I was trying to get pregnant. It was a challenging road for me, the baby-making road,” Aniston said.

She added: "I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it. I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.’ You just don’t think it. So here I am today. The ship has sailed.”

In the wake of Aniston's criticism, fans of Vance are hitting back hard—and some are even targeting the actress for lacking children.

"Jennifer Aniston is 55 years old, childless, and miserable," wrote one X account.

"LMAO Jennifer Aniston should've found someone when she was in her prime," sniped another. "Too bad so sad.. Have fun with your cats."

"Jennifer Aniston is an attractive woman. She's also got psychological & personality problems," someone else asserted. "That's why every man she's ever entered a relationship with left her & never looked back. Her opinion of Trump & Vance isn't worth shit."

Right-wing commentator Ian Miles Cheong took a swipe at Aniston too, saying, "Oh no, the cat ladies are offended."

But many others did not hesitate to defend Aniston and echo her criticism.

"Jennifer Aniston has dogs. Not cats," quipped one person.

"I have been trying to warn every conservative man I know - these JD comments are activating women across all sides, including my most conservative Trump supporting friends," said Meghan McCain. "These comments have caused real pain and are just innately unchristian. This is not who we are."

Echoed someone else: "Childless cat lady rhetoric and going against IVF might just pave the way to lose the elections. These men have completely underestimated how triggering women’s fertility journeys have been. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned - and who could not have children…"

After calling for Secret Service director’s resignation, Trump base now wants her jailed https://www.dailydot.com/debug/kimberly-cheatle-secret-service-resignation/ Tue, 23 Jul 2024 16:24:38 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1629317 Kimberly Cheatles(l), Hands behind back in handcuffs(r)

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned on Tuesday following a brutal bipartisan grilling by members of Congress on the agency's response and handling of the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.

While fans of Trump have called on her to resign in the weeks following the assassination effort, suddenly the announcement wasn't enough. Now, they want her jailed.

Members of both parties berated Cheatle during Monday's congressional hearing, in which she admitted "we failed" in protecting Trump but simultaneously evaded answering members' questions.

Cheatle's hearing display prompted a number of lawmakers, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and the Oversight Committee's top Republican and Democrat, to call for her resignation. Others, such as, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) announced impeachment plans.

"During the Oversight hearing today, Cheatle admitted the assassination attempt against President Trump was preventable, and as the Director of the United States Secret Service, she is ultimately responsible," Mace wrote on Monday.

As the articles of impeachment loomed, Cheatle resigned on Tuesday, according to reports from multiple outlets.

While Cheatle's decision fulfills the demands of many members of Congress, some right-wingers online are not satisfied by Cheatle's departure alone.

"Kim Cheatle is resigning her position," wrote one person on X. "This is not enough. Not even close to being enough. We need criminal charges."

"Resigning isn’t enough," echoed another right-wing commentator. "Both Kim Cheatle and [Homeland Security Secretary] Alejandro Mayorkas need to be arrested and criminally charged. Crimes have been committed."

"It's not enough for Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to resign," another right-winger remarked. "She and her boss Open Borders Traitor Alejandro Mayorkas MUST be criminally charged, prosecuted, and jailed."

"She should be tried for criminal negligence. AT THE BARE MINIMUM," concurred another account.

Someone else theorized: "Her resignation is NOT a victory. It’s meant to shut this down. Answers must be had."

The prospect of criminal charges is supported by some Republican members of Congress, including Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), who called for perjury charges in the wake of Cheatle's testimony.

And Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) voiced her support for the idea on Tuesday as well.

"Cheatle has resigned, but she may face criminal investigations for her role on 7/13 & her response in the days after," Greene said.

KHive swarms Truth Social, buzzes back against Trump attacks https://www.dailydot.com/debug/khive-kamala-harris-truth-social/ Tue, 23 Jul 2024 15:28:51 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1629194 Kamala Harris behive and truth social

Fans of Vice President Kamala Harris have turned their sights to Truth Social as former President Donald Trump ramped up his attacks against Harris on his personal platform.

Trump's initial posts in the wake of President Joe Biden announcing his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential election and endorsing Harris to succeed him as the Democratic nominee focused on criticizing Biden.

But since Monday afternoon, Trump pivoted to focus his attacks against Harris.

"Joe Biden will go down as the Worst President in the history of the United States. KAMALA, OUR HORRIBLE & INCOMPETENT BORDER CZAR, WILL BE WORSE!" Trump wrote in the first post that specifically mentioned Harris since Sunday's news.

In another, Trump blasted the "Fake News" for trying "to turn 'Dumb as a Rock' Kamala Harris from a totally failed and insignificant Vice President into a future 'Great' President."

He then shared a Daily Mail poll conducted July 1-3 that found Harris would lose to Trump in a hypothetical head-to-head match-up by 11 points.

Other polls show a much tighter race with Trump leading by an average of just 1.9% nationwide. (In comparison, Trump had been leading Biden by an average of 3%).

Trump's post promoting the older poll is where traces of KHive, the term coined during the 2020 election for devoted pro-Harris posters, first began to emerge.

"I guess you should have spent your campaign money on RUNNING ON SOMETHING instead of running against someone," quipped one person, whose profile photo is an image of Harris and whose name included "YES WE KAM." "If your policies were good enough to run on, then the name on the democratic ballot would be irrelevant."

Someone else replied: "Kamala is calling out your multitude of crimes. She said; I KNOW DONALD TRUMP'S TYPE. You are so screwed."

In her first speech at campaign headquarters, Harris echoed an old video from her 2020 campaign that went viral again, highlighting her ability to prosecute career criminals.

As Trump continued his attacks against Harris in later posts, the presence of KHive in the replies only seemed to grow.

By Trump's latest post targeted Harris, writing "NBC News Poll: Lyin’ Kamala Harris is the most unpopular Vice President in history. WOW, that is not a great sound bite!," the migration of KHive to Truth Social was undeniable.

"Those numbers and the endorsements she's received in the past 35 indicate she's more popular than you would like," reads one reply, which has been liked 314 times. "Kamala Harris is going to kick your ass into the next year on election day in Roevember!"

"Keep lying in order for your fragile ego to feel better. This is what A REAL PRESIDENT looks like," another person wrote, along with a photo of Harris as Rosie the Riveter.

Someone else who similarly changed their profile photo to Harris wrote: "She will be a great President as she was VP. You lose Donald."

"Yet you are all having a melt down!!!" wrote another Truth account. "Ironic that a misogynistic racist is gonna lose to a black woman!!! Haha"

The majority of posts still overwhelmingly lean pro-Trump and anti-Harris, but KHive appears undeterred by the imbalance.

Harris fans on Truth Social have been unhesitant to spread their views, using a range of hashtags including "#YesWeKam," "#KHive," and "#KamalaForThePeople."

Users promoting those views include accounts with Harris profile photos and names such as "RepublicansForHarris," "KamalaNotConvict2024," and "Kamala’s gonna mop the floor with trump."

Kamala Harris behive and truth social

Haha"

MAGA fans frantically spitball sexist new nicknames for Kamala Harris https://www.dailydot.com/debug/kamala-harris-sexist-nicknames-kameltoe/ Mon, 22 Jul 2024 16:54:40 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1628330 Kamala Harris faces slew of sexist monikers as right-wing ratchets up attacks

Right-wingers online unveiled a series of sexist nicknames and memes for Vice President Kamala Harris as attacks ramped up following President Joe Biden's endorsement of her as the 2024 Democratic nominee.

On Monday, the moniker "Kameltoe" was a top trend on X as some supporters of former President Donald Trump promoted the nickname.

"#KamelToe is a wreck," wrote one person.

Harris supporters hit back by applying the same nickname to Trump, while some separately called out the reasoning behind the term.

"This one isn't racial, or xenophobic," blasted one user. "It's straight up misogyny - denigrating a presidential nominee to nothing more than female genitalia. We are not a healthy society."

"It's not funny it is sexist, disgusting, and juvenile," rebuked someone else.

But while "Kameltoe" may have been the only one to trend on X, plenty of other nicknames have been doled out by right-wingers against Harris.

Some of the attacks focused on Harris' relationship with California politician Willie Brown 30 years ago.

"Never forget that when Kamala Harris was 29-years-old, she started an AFFAIR with 60-year-old Willie Brown, he was a married California house speaker, Mayor of San Francisco and one of the most powerful in California," wrote one right-wing account on Sunday.

However, according to Reuters, at the time of the relationship, Brown had been separated from his wife for more than a decade. Reuters also reported that Harris and Brown's relationship ended in 1995—prior to Brown serving as San Francisco mayor (he was instead a top Democrat in the State Assembly during their relationship).

Nonetheless, the right-wing account said that the pair's relationship is why he calls her "Kamala Hoerris."

"Kamala Hoerris will never be president," echoed one commenter, while other commenters posted sexually suggestive takes about how Harris built her career.

That sort of name-calling is not new. According to NPR, one shirt sold by a vendor at Trump rallies read "F**k Joe and the Hoe." (Those shirts are sold by third parties and are not official campaign merchandise.)

Others photoshopped Harris' 2024 logo into graphic images.

Not all gender-based criticism of Harris, however, involves name-calling. Some involve spotlighting the fact that she has no biological children of her own.

"Kamala Harris wisely chose not to ever inflict herself on her own children," wrote one commentator. "I trust her judgement on this. This also disqualifies her to be president--if she wasn't qualified to raise a child, she is not qualified to lead a nation."

"Really simple, underdiscussed reason why Kamala Harris shouldn’t be President: No children," echoed someone else, though he added he made the same argument against Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.).

The rhetoric that has swept social media since Biden dropped out has Harris supporters bracing for further vitriol.

Remarked one person: "Man the racist and sexist vitriol that’s going to be hurled at Kamala is gonna be crazy… SMH. STRAP IN!"

"But what matters electorally is not how brutally or cringingly sexist the attacks get, it’s how much the attacks persuade Americans who aren’t already voting for Trump," concluded someone else.

Kamala Harris kicks off 2024 bid with ‘Brat’-inspired rebrand—and a plug from Charli XCX https://www.dailydot.com/debug/kamala-harris-charli-xcx-brat-green/ Mon, 22 Jul 2024 14:18:10 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1628239 Harris takes inspiration from Charli XCX as she kicks off presidential campaign

Vice President Kamala Harris leaned into Charli XCX's "Brat" green as she kicked off her presidential campaign on Sunday—and her fans can't get enough of it.

The new X account representing her campaign displays a lime green banner with "kamala hq" written in lowercase. The shade and the font mirror the latest studio album by English singer Charli XCX.

The singer seems to have no problem with Harris taking inspiration from her, writing on Sunday: "kamala IS brat."

https://twitter.com/charli_xcx/status/1815182384066707861

The launch of the KamalaHQ X account came the same day that President Joe Biden announced he was dropping out of the 2024 race and would back Harris to succeed him as the Democratic nominee.

And Harris already appears to be leaning into memes and themes that may appeal to younger voters.

In addition to using the Brat green, Harris' campaign bio simply states "providing context," a reference to the coconut tree meme that has followed her since 2023, when she quoted her mother asking "'You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?’"

“You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you," Harris said at the time.

Harris' early campaign branding choices are thrilling young fans.

"brat vote secured," quipped 27-year-old Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) in response to Charli XCX's post.

"if kamala sells merch that says 'coconut tree' in the brat font she’ll raise 1 mil in under 24 hours easy," joked one person.

"Absolutely LIVING for the fact that some gen z digital staffers clearly had to explain the importance of this specific shade of lime green to a bunch of ops today," another person wrote alongside screenshots of the "Brat" green shade.

"brat kamala is the real dark brandon," quipped someone else.

CNN political commentator Alyssa Farah Griffin weighed in with a joke of her own as well, writing: "electoral politics [+] brat summer. My skill sets finally collide."

https://twitter.com/Alyssafarah/status/1815227657564356981

The Harris-Brat crossover has also drawn a range of Brat-style video edits and memes from supporters, which first began after Biden's poor debate performance last month.

And some Democrats are convinced that Charli XCX's endorsement of Harris will spur young voters' support.

"The amount this single tweet may have just done for the youth vote is not insignificant," wrote David Hogg.

"this tweet will reach more young people than a million dollar cable ad," echoed one progressive staffer.

"this tweet is worth more than biden's endorsement," joked someone else.

Vivek Ramaswamy praised for November 2023 guarantee Biden wouldn’t be Democrat nominee https://www.dailydot.com/debug/vivek-ramaswamy-joe-biden-prediction/ Sun, 21 Jul 2024 21:35:36 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1628039 vivek ramaswamy biden

An old video of Vivek Ramaswamy predicting President Joe Biden would drop out of the 2024 race eight months ago is re-circulating on social media.

Ramaswamy, who at the time was running in the Republican presidential primary, asserted in Nov. 8, 2023 that Biden would not be the Democratic nominee come November 2024.

“End this farce that Joe Biden is going to be your nominee,” Ramaswamy said during the GOP primary debate. “We know he’s not even the President of the United States. He’s a puppet for the managerial class.”

On Sunday, his prediction became reality as Biden announced he was withdrawing from the race “in the best interest” of the Democratic party and the U.S.

Now, Ramaswamy and his allies are reveling in his vindication.

“A lot of you owe Vivek Ramaswamy an apology for clowning on him as a conspiracy theorist when he said this all the way back in November,” concluded Ashley St. Clair, who also shared a clip of Ramaswamy’s debate comments.

Another commentator shared Ramaswamy’s debate comments and quoted him.

"’Be honest about who you're actually going to put up so we can have an honest debate’ Vivek Ramaswamy 258 days ago. Well, we're waiting,” he wrote.

”VIVEK CALLED IT,” concluded someone else.

Others echoed that view, with one account commending Ramaswamy: “Vivek is 1000 IQ.”

“People underestimate [Ramaswamy],” said someone else. “The man is a wealth of knowledge and passion. He will be president one day.”

”Vivek was right about everything,” agreed someone else.

“Damn your predictions are impressively accurate,” remarked another X user.

Even Elon Musk doled praise, saying: “Yeah, all his predictions have come true.”

And Ramaswamy himself boasted on X about calling Biden’s withdrawal from the race.

“The anatomy of how a ‘conspiracy theory’ became reality, in just 18 months,” he said, sharing a video of comments he made in Spring 2023 alleging it’s “a myth” that Biden is running for president in 2024 and other clips making similar calls.

He added in a separate post: “Best way to predict the future: just follow the incentives. It’s shocking how precisely right you can be, right down to the exact timing.”

Did Biden secretly resign in disgrace for failing to take out Trump? https://www.dailydot.com/debug/joe-biden-dropping-out-2024-conspiracy/ Sun, 21 Jul 2024 19:48:14 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1627986 President Biden

A number of new conspiracies are circulating online following President Joe Biden's announcement on Sunday that he is dropping out of the 2024 presidential election and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor

"It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President," Biden wrote in the announcement. "And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term."

The conspiracies come from the same posters who long alleged Biden would be replaced in a secret coup, leaving them—for the moment—feeling vindicated.

The posts range from Biden dropping out so the Democrats can replace him with a candidate that would make stealing the 2024 election more believable, it being a ploy to distract from the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, and beyond.

Some posters even alleged that Biden and the Democrats were behind the assassination effort against Trump and that, because it failed, Biden now needed to go.

Biden's move followed weeks of intense pressure from Democrats, with dozens of lawmakers publicly calling for him to step down from the race in the weeks after his abysmal debate performance against Trump.

Not everyone is taking Biden's withdrawal announcement at face value—in part because he was saying the opposite just two days prior.

"Joe Biden did NOT write this," one right-wing poster said of Biden's announcement letter. "There is NO evidence this came from him. Coup underway!!"

He added in a separate post: "And just like that, they got you to stop talking about the failed Trump assassination attempt."

"The coup is complete," concluded Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.).

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) offered a similar take, writing: "The Democrat primary voters chose Biden and the elites took him out. This whole thing feels insurrection-ey."

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), for her part, similarly stated that there is "a soft civil war happening in the deep state and the elites in power" and mused that "the Biden’s must have gotten the price they demanded for the presidential library that will pay the entire family for years to come.

"Never forget they rigged the DNC Convention in 2016 against Bernie Sanders and for Hillary Clinton," Greene added.

At least one person offered an alternate theory—that the Democratic in-fighting was nothing more than a distraction.

"Finally, the DNC has sorted out their candidate. The only reason for the faux delay and fake in-fighting," the user wrote. "And anyone who fell for it, go back and look at the timeline of who called for him to drop and relate it to where they stand in the Dem party."

And others theorized that Biden would not have dropped out if Trump had been killed during the assassination attempt last Saturday.

Some even thought he was secretly resigning in shame over his plot failing to succeed.

"Biden would NOT have dropped out had the assassin he and his party and the media radicalised achieved their common goal," the right-wing commentator wrote. "He’s not standing down out of honor. He’s standing down because he came at the King and missed."

"The assassin missed and Biden took the hit," was a common refrain pushed online.

https://twitter.com/GlenNaguns50991/status/1815108443625390519

https://twitter.com/trobinsonnewera/status/1815087483584934003?s=46&t=5T6iqpLO5RayQ-JajmHlqw

Other conspiratorial posts echoed right-wingers' long-standing, baseless allegations of widespread voter fraud that rigged the 2020 election.

"Now the Democrats are rigging their *own* elections," quipped Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.).

"The reason Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race is so the Democrats can cheat," alleged one pundit. "With Biden, a win—even with cheating—was no longer believable. Now they’ll trot out a charismatic, young, 'moderate' candidate so they can cheat. Mark my words."

Concurred another person: "Democrats are ONLY replacing Biden because they realize the nation will not buy it if they cheat for him again. They think replacing him with someone else will make the theft of the 2024 election more believable. I hope Republicans start waking up."

Someone else claimed the Democrats will replace Biden with "another puppet" who has no chance against Trump and will "either cheat, make another virus or try and take out Trump again - they have no other solutions."

But not all the conspiratorial posts were so nefarious.

Joked Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.): "Today is National Ice Cream Day. Coincidence? No chance!"

No chance!"

Adidas infuriates some by choosing Bella Hadid to model their tribute to the 1972 Munich Olympics https://www.dailydot.com/debug/adidas-munich-sneaker-bella-hadid/ Thu, 18 Jul 2024 18:36:15 +0000 https://www.dailydot.com/?p=1625751 Adidas under fire for collaboration with Bella Hadid

Sportwear giant Adidas is under fire from the pro-Israel crowd after unveiling a collaboration with Bella Hadid bringing back a reimagined version of the sneaker first released for the 1972 Munich Olympics.

"First released for the 1972 Munich Olympics, the adidas SL 72 shoes have been reimagined for modern wear," Adidas' website boasts.

During those games, Palestinians affiliated with the militant group Black September attacked Israel's Olympic team, taking eight hostages. In total, 11 Israeli coaches and athletes died as well as one police officer.

That fact, combined with Adidas choosing a Palestinian model for the campaign, brought about loads of backlash.

"I'm sorry, WHAT???" commented one X user. "Did Adidas choose a Palestinian to model a shoe symbolizing the 1972 Munich Olympics, where 11 Israeli athletes were massacred by a Palestinian terrorist organization? It's as if they sent their brand managers to a special course in insensitivity."

Hadid previously drew the ire of some pro-Israel advocates for her support of the Free Palestine movement. Most of the criticism went toward her sister, Gigi Hadid, who has been comparably more outspoken against Israel in the wake of Oct. 7.

Bella Hadid, for her part, broke her silence in late October, saying she "weep[s] alongside mothers who have lost their children and the children who cry alone" while also extending her condolences to those impacted by Hamas' attack. She also said she received hundreds of death threats and was doxxed over her support of Palestine.

The Adidas campaign drew immediate backlash, as users recalled that the company's founder was a card-carrying member of the Nazi Party.

"So Adidas picks a Palestinian woman to celebrate the year Palestinians slaughtered Jews at the Olympics. You really can never hide your true Nazi colors, can you?" one person said.

"Still haven't let go of your Nazi roots," echoed someone else.

"This is not a mistake, it’s by design," blasted another prominent pro-Israel user, who later added: "Adidas, are you threatening Jews?"

He added in a separate post: "Adidas: Founded by Nazi Adolf Dassler. Kept working with Kanye for years despite his antisemitism. Now doing a campaign with Bella Hadid, who shared pro-Hamas propaganda to her 61M followers. Some things never change..."

In response to the campaign, one person said she decided to throw out her Adidas shoes. Others similarly began deploying the hashtag #BoycottAdidas.

"First Kanye and now another Antisemite to celebrate the Munich Massacre?" one user said, referencing the rapper's antisemitic remarks that prompted the brand to drop him. "You hate Jews and learned nothing. Here’s a tip: you could showcase an ATHLETE since you’re an athletic brand. This disgusting choice was blatant and obvious and we will #BoycottAdidas"

"Boycotting is the right thing to do ASAP," concluded someone else.

Update 3:00pm CT: In a statement to the Daily Dot, Adidas said it was "revising" the campaign after seeing the "upset and distress" it caused.

"The Adidas Originals SL72 campaign unites a broad range of partners to celebrate our lightweight running shoe, designed more than 50 years ago and worn in sport and culture around the world. We are conscious that connections have been made to tragic historical events—though these are completely unintentional—and we apologize for any upset or distress caused. As a result we are revising the remainder of the campaign. We believe in sport as a unifying force around the world and will continue our efforts to champion diversity and equality in everything we do," the brand said.
