When it was first revealed in 2021, Indonesian studio Berangin Creative and their upcoming game Kejora looked to be one of the best-looking titles in the region. Taking inspiration from slice-of-life anime, Kejora brought the Indonesian countryside to life.

Since then, not many updates of the game have been announced, though IGN Southeast Asia remained excited about the game’s prospects. Thankfully, two years later, we now have a major update on Kejora and Berangin Creative’s progress.

Kejora was initially meant to be a run-and-gun sidescroller, with Cuphead being the main source of reference. It was initiated by the two founders of Berangin Creative, Yarfai Azami and Bagaskara Firdaus.

The team, however, received a less-than-favourable response to the game when the initial prototype was created. The founders attributed this to their lack of experience and small team, which consisted of three people.

This year, Kejora now has a new direction and is being developed as a puzzle-platforming adventure while maintaining its hand-drawn aesthetic. The game tells the story of a girl named Kejora, who is pursued by monstrous creatures after discovering a dreadful secret.

Kejora is not alone in this mysterious and eerier adventure, however, as she will be accompanied by friends who can assist her in overcoming obstacles and ultimately discovering the truth behind their seemingly peaceful village.

With the shift in game direction, the Berangin Creative team participated in the Indigo Game Startup Incubation (IGSI) event to gain some feedback on the new and improved Kejora. This new sense of validation has given the now nine-person team the confidence to complete Kejora’s development.

Those who are interested in following Kejora’s journey can now wishlist the game on Steam.
