The Spider-Man scene in Venom probably isn't what you expected.

Ever since the Venom movie was announced, there's been speculation about whether it would be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and if Tom Holland's Spider-Man would appear in it.

(Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures struck a deal in 2015 to share the screen rights to Spidey, allowing for the web-slinger to appear in Disney's MCU movies and for MCU actors to appear in Sony's Spider-Man solo films.)

When it comes to Venom, though, Marvel Studios ultimately opted not to have Tom Holland's Spider-Man appear or be mentioned in it. For all intents and purposes then Venom exists in a world devoid of superheroes and villains.

But that doesn't mean Spider-Man isn't in Venom.

In lieu of a Tom Holland cameo, Sony has instead included roughly five minutes of footage from their upcoming animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as a preview right before the end credits finish.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse opens in the US and the UK on December 14th and in Australia on December 13th. For more on the film, check out what voice stars Shameik Moore and Jake Johnson had to tell us about it as well as our breakdown of all the Easter eggs we found in the trailer.
