At EVO 2023, NetherRealm revealed Reptile, Ashrah, and Havik will be joining the roster of Mortal Kombat 1 and that Sareena will be a new Kameo.

The news was announced alongside a brand new Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay trailer that showed the characters in action. It also gave another glimpse at the story players will experience when the latest entry in the legendary fighting franchise is released on September 19, 2023.

Reptile, who is also known as Syzoth, made his debut in the original Mortal Kombat as the first secret character in fighting game history, but he wasn't playable until Mortal Kombat II. In the trailer, we catch a glimpse of Reptile shapeshifting between his reptile form and human form.

Ashrah first appeared in Mortal Kombat: Deception and is actually a demon in disguise from the Netherrealm who is now searching for absolution. As for Havik, he also made his debut in Mortal Kombat: Deception and is a Cleric of Chaos and an anarchist from the Chaosrealm.

Sareena is the new Kameo character, which are fighters that can assist you in battle but aren't directly controlled by the player. Sareena herself first showed her face in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero and became playable in Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition.

These characters are just three of the many revealed so far, and join the likes of Geras, Sektor, Cyrax, Frost, and Scorpion. Oh, and need we remind you that Homelander, Peacemaker, and Omni-Man will also be joining the roster as DLC?
