Today Marvel Comics revealed that Captain Marvel will be getting a new ongoing comic just in time for her MCU debut. The new series, simply titled "Captain Marvel," will debut in January 2019 following the conclusion of The Life of Captain Marvel.

As revealed by The New York Times, the new volume of Captain Marvel will feature a brand-new creative team, including writer Kelly Thompson (West Coast Avengers), artist Carmen Carnero (X-Men Red) and colorist Tamra Bonvillain (Doom Patrol).

The new series looks to be bringing Carol Danvers back to basics following the events of The Life of Captain Marvel and her return home to Boston. The relaunch sends Carol back to New York and will prominently feature her Avengers teammates and other familiar allies like Spider-Woman.

Thompson also teased a new romance for Carol. "“There will definitely be some romance and it may be someone we all know and have seen before in Marvel Comics,” she told NYT.

Thompson also said that a major goal of the new series will be to maintain a balance between continuing Carol's ongoing story and crafting a book that's approachable to fans of the new movie. “You really want her to be accessible to new and younger audiences who are going to see the movie, fall in love and want to seek out other Captain Marvel stories,” she said. “But you really want to respect the fans who have loved the character for decades. I think there’s a razor’s edge there.”
