World Cyber Games (WCG) and the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) have come together to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
This partnership serves as a sign of both parties' intentions to work together to advance, promote, grow, and safeguard grassroots esports.
With the tournament soon returning, this MoU is crucial to AESF's mission to develop an esports ecosystem, work with publishers, and give esports athletes a platform to compete at numerous international competitions across the continent.
WCG and AESF will work together to make sure that esports is widely available and accessible for everyone in order to have a positive influence on the popularity of esports and well-balanced platforms from the bottom up, which is the professional esports scene.
Esports fans can anticipate being more connected than ever to their preferred professional gaming athletes or teams thanks to a highly accessible platform like WCG.
The partnership outlines AESF and WCG's efforts to support esports events, teams, athletes, and education initiatives planned by both organisations.
The WCG Grand Final will be promoted as a worldwide competition across the five continents with the help of AESF, which will also offer consultation support for the selection of game titles.
The Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023 will mark the highest level of esports competition in Asia to date. Together with WCG, AESF wants to create competitions that can be easily linked to the Olympic Esports movement and serve as the foundation for numerous future events.
The WCG and the AESF will also work together on any upcoming esports conferences, forums, and events that will help the industry's grassroots development. Additionally, this MoU will provide internship opportunities for AESF University Partner students in the industry to support esports education and increase the industry's long-term stability.
Kenneth Fok, the President of AESF, said they are excited about the opportunity this partnership presents for the entire esports movement and are thrilled to be working with WCG.
“WCG’s initiatives to advance the grassroots of Esports aligns with the AESF’s vision to facilitate and nurture the development of world-class athletes at an international level,” he added.
Sebastian Lau, Director General of the AESF, stated that this is a partnership with a purpose that makes use of WCG's considerable experience in holding competitions to realise the AESF's goal of creating grassroots and education initiatives in Esports as well as expanding our reach throughout and outside of Asia.
According to Kwang Jun Song, CEO of Big Picture Interactive, WCG has had a positive impact on the global esports industry for 20 years, and AESF has also helped to create a high-quality esports infrastructure and given players a variety of experiences.
"Therefore, WCG plans to expand the grassroots esports experience to global gamers through a MOU with AESF and will continue various activities to raise the quality of life of global gamers," he added.
